Happy #WorldMigratoryBirdDay to all who celebrate! I’m digging my most abundant buds of the day — the American Robin. I love seeing great big flocks cleaning out the mountain ash.
A spunky little song sparrow struts through a puddle, checking out its own reflection like it's the hottest bird in the marsh.
“Something touched my leg!”

Yay! This is such an amazing #Birdathon idea! 👏👏👏
A White-throated Sparrow perched among the branches of a cedar tree. The bird is partially hidden by green foliage, with its distinctive white throat, black-and-white head stripes, and yellow lores clearly visible.
“Oh sweet Canada, Canada, Canada”
A big welcome back to these forest songsters. We’ve missed you, White-throated Sparrow.

A Sharp-shinned Hawk gives a fierce, slightly judgmental stare straight at the camera. Its sharp gray feathers are crisp in the foreground, with a soft, wintry blur of snow and trees behind—clearly not amused to have missed out on its lunch.
Sharpie in the hood! 🪶
This bird has been drawn to the feeders to the great dismay all other yard birds both large and small.

So much going on and such great words to go with! Snood sounds like a Dr. Seuss invention
A close-up of a wild turkey with dark brown feathers and a strikingly colourful head, featuring a blue snood hanging over his beak and red wattles. There is a hairlike patch of feathers protruding from its chest, this is the turkey’s beard.
TIL that turkeys have beards. 🪶

What is an Avian ambassador? Every year, we select an Avian Ambassador to help us share an important and current conservation story. The Chestnut-collared Longspur will guide us through the urgent story of Canada’s disappearing grasslands - one of the most endangered ecosystems on the planet.
Meet the Ambassador Found in the Prairies, the Chestnut-collared Longspur is a songbird known for the males' elaborate flight displays in their open grassland habitats, flying high and fluttering downward while singing a sweet, burbling song.

I’d love to trade you a grackle for a magpie!
So well done!!
Three Common Grackles at a snow-covered bird feeder. Two of the birds are gripping the metal mesh feeder filled with peanuts, while the third is flapping its wings below as they jostle for position.
Three Common Grackles perched on the top of a bird feeder during a snowfall. The birds have glossy black feathers with iridescent blue heads, and their bright yellow eyes stand out. One bird on the left has its wings and tail slightly spread as it makes its characteristic readle-eak call.
I could not be happier to welcome back all the glorious blackbirds!
Grackles have a pretty bad rep — they’re big, they’re noisy, they chase off smaller species, but dang they are fun to watch.
There has been high drama at the feeders since their return! 🪶

Here’s another reason to support bird conservation—Birds contribute $279 billion to the U.S. economy and create 1.4 million jobs. 💸 #Birds are big business!
A song sparrow perches on the edge of a tube feeder, its streaked brown and white plumage is slightly fluffed against the cool rain.
Spring is here!! Song Sparrows are singing, rain is falling, its a perfect day to #getoutside

Kicking off March Break with another beautiful snowy day. This winter just keeps delivering!
Wow!! So pretty
A trail splits the spruce forest with tall snow-covered trees. The sky is bright blue and the fresh snow is gleaming!
Making the most of the last days of winter! Nothing better than fresh snow and blue skies 😍
This is a Hairy woodpecker. It’s hard to tell without seeing them side by side but a hairy is much larger and the bill is long compared to the petit bill of a downy :)
Haha, if it makes you feel any better it look like 3 months to get around to making the damn thing!
Love them!
A male hairy woodpecker perched on a birdfeeder that is really just an old log strung up on a hanger with several lard-filled holes.
Our homemade suet feeder is finally bringing the birds to the yard! Just a couple holes in a log with some lard jammed it 🤌 Mr. and Mrs. Hairy are regular customers. 🪶

Good day sunshine!
Morning bog walk to check up on the black-backed woodpecker. No luck there but the Hairys were drumming and a couple of Ravens were busy building a nest!

Celebrating 9 years with Sadie dog by taking a snowy walk to the bog. Perfect post storm conditions for trudging through the snow.
