ACAB. Police culture breeds this, regardless of the few who want to be "good apples."

Or small music festivals with musicians i'd like to see, and poster says it'll be at, e.g., "Dandelion Regional Park," and i think oh is this somewhere in the Fraser Valley and i've never heard of it, but then i'm forced to google and i learn that no, it's in North Carolina.
screencap of a tweet with a photo at the bottom of JD Vance giving a talk, gesturing smugly with his hands Eric Daugherty • @EricLDaugh • 1h • JD VANCE RESPONDS TO POPE LEO: "When the Pope says that God is never on the side of those who wield the sword - there is more than a THOUSAND year tradition of Just war Theory." "In the same way that it's important for the vice president of the United States to be careful when I talk about matters of public policy, I think it's very, very important for the pope to be careful when he talks about matters of theology." "And I think that one of these issues here is that there has been - if you're going to opine on matters of theology, you've got to be careful, you've got to make sure it's anchored in the truth, and that's one of the things that I try to do, and it's certainly something I would expect from the clergy, whether they're Catholic or Protestant."
I’ve given this a great deal of thought, trying to come up with the perfect joke for this moment, and this is what I have so far -
POPE LEO: our religion teaches that this war is bad
VANCE: wow, who died and made YOU head of the Catholic Church??
POPE LEO: well, you should know, you were there

Thom Hartmann @hartmannreport.com is particularly noteworthy. I know many have written him about this but he continues to drain those reservoirs.
Ironically i thought he looks like Jon Stewart, which makes no sense at all.
Two decades in Canada now and i remember the first time i heard him on CBC, way back then. Thought he was an ass, and i've never wavered since.
I'm with Marisa.

We have entered the “you can’t kill me if I commit suicide” phase of American Decline
FUCKING THIS.
EVERY DAMN DAY we have to deal with a whole bunch of putting some man's "value to society" over our basic humanity. EVERY DAY. "But he'll be a good president." Find someone else. "But he's a good comedian." So will someone else be. "But he catches footballs good." FUCK OFF WITH THAT.

Melania: not me.

current me: okay so there’s a big fight between the government and the catholic church
teenage me: got it, so we’re obviously on the side of the government
current me: I, uh, you might want to sit down for this one
A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois
Brutal.
For some reason i'm thinking of John Furlong. Here's a story which couldn't possibly have anything to do with John Furlong, nor with silencing of many indigenous victims of this anonymous man, found to be a human rights violation, a decision now viciously opposed by Mark Carney's government.
The dark side of that, or so i've heard, is that she was rather mistreated and abused (largely by said husband) and basically was forced to give away her talent for free.
So no coalition, eh? We'll remember who spearheaded the drive to re-elect Ken Sim.
They should have jumped on that a year ago. But, so far, crickets. The only thing our federal and provincial governments appear enthused about is ramping up fossil fuel production.
“Human favoritism” is such a strange choice of words.
Would we use this term for other situations where a person chooses to interact with another person rather than a machine?
Maybe people just value human communication and contact and that is actually part of being a social animal.

Jeff Bezos has $222 billion.
If he paid my wealth tax this year, we could fund insulin in America for everyone who needs it plus free school lunch for every kid in Texas—and have plenty of money left over.
And Bezos would still have $215 billion dollars to spare.
