In all earnestness, the fact that Finland still tops this report -- despite record unemployment, long-lasting economic stagnation and harsh austerity policies + a schizo neighbor with nukes -- paints a pretty grim picture about the state of happiness in the world overall.

I love how the Finnish version of this news story has hundreds of comments in the vein of "What is this hogwash, I and everyone I know are miserable all the time" & "Other countries must be fucking shit then"

I will say I totally get your opposition to landmines because unmarked/unexploded mines are a terrible problem globally. But it's not going to be a problem in Finland -- like it wasnt a problem when Finland wasnt in the treaty.

Finland had landmines until 2012 and it was fine.

The mines would be put in the ground only if there was an armed conflict. Sources say the mines would be modern things that deactivate after a period of time. There wont be Finnish minefields during peacetime.

The gov has also pledged 15M€ to anti-mine efforts in 🇸🇴, 🇺🇦, 🇮🇶 & elsewhere.
