Agreed, and I appreciate that he used prose to show the evolution of language over time. He did the same with The Boats of the Glenn Carrig, which I liked, but itโs a shorter story. The narrative style at that prose for that many pages in The Night Land was just too much, but I do love its weirdness
Iโm probably the only one here whoโs actually read this book. Itโs notorious for being long and boring and in that respect it did not disappoint! That said, it was interesting to read one of science fictionโs earliest epics.

When I open them, most of the books have the smell of an earlier time leaking out between the pages - a special odor of the knowledge & emotions that for ages have been calmly resting between the covers. Breathing it in, I glance through a few pages before returning each book to its shelf.

Itโs been 20 years now, but I remember liking its atmosphere and quirkiness, the feeling of being in the weeds of a foggy port town during the great depression. Definitely a vibe

A poem by Langston Hughes titled "Tired". It reads as the following: "I am so tired of waiting, Aren't you, For the world to become good And beautiful and kind? Let us take a knife And cut the world in two -- And see what worms are eating At the rind."
I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.

Two days late to this, but it's fine!
Hi, I'm Hadassah! I write gothic horror, historical horror, and dark fantasy -- I love to write horror because I have a fondness for the macabre and unsettling, and because horror is simply very fun to write.

Pictured is the anthology When Things Get Dark, Edited by Ellen Datlow. The anthology features stories inspired by Shirley Jackson.
Somehow I missed this when it was published in 2021. Thereโs plenty of great writers here, along with names Iโve heard about but havenโt read. Looking forward to reading it this weekend. #horror #horrorfiction #horrorwriters #ellendatlow #shirleyjackson

Crushing my tbr this week! Hodgson is fast becoming one of my favorite early 20th century weird horror authors (Glen Carrig was great and The Night Lands, so far, has been a trip)
