I don’t think there’s any clear numbers out there for the more recent seasons, but I do think it’s been noted in public facing communications that Survivor is a cheaper production than it was previously.

The fascinating thing is that your estimate about the cost of a Survivor season is likely a moderate underestimate. Since they have prebuilt infrastructure in Fiji now and they’ve shortened the production time due to a reduction of active filming days from 39 to 26 per season, they’ve reduced costs.

I’m biased by my friendship with the two non-muppets on this one (and my several games of Indonesia with Analog Arnie!), but if you’re looking for a resource to help you parse what in the hell an Arcs campaign is actually like to play, this is the go-to one.

I don’t think I’ve thought about a game as much or often since my first play as Molly House. A sensational experience that communicated its themes (in the literary sense) with a deft hand. Also, one of the few games to deal with sex and desire in a way that is mature and isn’t leering or boorish.

Had the great gift of playing Rex Regnat and Republic of Rome at Circle DC.

Rex Regnat was a real gem; closer in spirit to something like Joraku than to Arcs or Brian Boru in the “trick taking in service of a bigger game” thing.

Republic of Rome was just as meaty and bonkers and I hoped.

Took some time during the last day of Circle DC to go to the National Portrait Gallery and was struck by this portrait of Temple Grandin.

Had a fun, if short, first day at Circle DC! My only play of the day before hunger and exhaustion caught up with me was the excellent Rex Regnant by @nomadotto.bsky.social . The Space Biff review it got this week does a better job of explaining it than I could, but I will say it lives up to it!

I’d just have to rewatch “Moneyball” to get the inflection right.

But just like in every faith, Orthodoxy has a wide variety of expressions, even if the adult converts don’t make it look like there are.

As somebody with, uh, close secondhand experience of Adult Orthodox Convert, I know why Orthodoxy as it exists in America has strong conservative appeal. It has the same sort of institutional authority of Catholicism, but without the centralized baggage. You can pick a flavor that works for you.
