If you're looking for more meaningful Christmas presents, make sure to consider @thinkorswim.bsky.social's recently bublished book Lie of the Land: a gripping, vital read.
I am just finishing off the last few pages. It has been a very emotionally-charged reading experience. Everyone living in Ireland ought to read it.
Thanks, @thinkorswim.bsky.social, for writing this hugely important book. ๐๐
I learned about this idea from @cdfarmguy.bsky.social ๐
What is meant, anyway, by "appropriate vegetation"?
๐ฏ Fix a tonne of problems with one stone, so to speak.
I could hardly bear to follow COP as I have in previous years. And as I slowly read The Lie of the Land by John Gibbons, I can't pull my thoughts from this gnawing question, a question that's been with me for years: why do we continue to put the fate of Life in the hands of elites?
Greenhouse beds with young plants and makeshift row cover hoops.
Tonight is the first night of low temperatures this autumn (or winter by the Irish calendar), and this is my crappy but cheap solution for row cover hoops: willow and elm branches! There weren't many funds left after forking out for the biodegradable fleece shipped from the UK!

I take it these are pics of your own garden? It's beautiful. I must prefer the visual result of this approach to gardening.
Absolutely unsurprising. Virtually all exported too โย and I'm guessing most of it ends up in compost bags in garden centres.
Whether you're in Ireland, the UK or elsewhere โ always, always buy peat free compost. Kill this destructive market.

#Yellowmustard ( #Sinapsisalba) is planted over my garlic beds as a multifunctional cover crop. It simultaneously suppresses weeds, protects and enriches the soil (a modest nitrogen fixer), and will die with the first frost, leaving the bed effortlessly mulched for the later growing garlic! ๐ง๐ฑ๐
Human nature runs the gamut from genocidal blood lust to self-sacrificing altruism.Context shapes the development of human beings. The great thing about society is that we get to choose which traits we want to emphasise, which we want to redirect towards benign outlets, and which we want to discourage

The figure shows how much global food systems contribute to pressures on all nine planetary boundaries.
New EAT-Lancet warns: food systems breach Planetary Boundaries.
โEAT-Lancet 2025 places justice at the centre, not only as a goal but also as a vital part of enabling transformation,โ says Centre Director Line Gordon, one of the reportโs lead authors.

I finally finished laying the groundwork of my greenhouse๐คฉ The field in which it stands was tilled and sown with native plants, but if all goes as planned, no ploughshare will ever again turn the sod under my watch! Why? Because Bee's Boon is grounded on a regenerative ethos. Follow to learn more.๐ฑ๐
