We who are connected to an alcoholic person suffer along with them, especially if we don't know that that they are suffering from a disease. We can't help them but we can help ourselves by seeking therapy and participating in al-anon, developed to help codependent partners.

Alcoholism is a disease. It's a terrible disease. If I injure myself, I know it and pretty much admit it. Many alcoholics don't want to accept that they have a disease and don't seek help. You and I cannot help am alcoholic who doesn't face that they are alcoholic.
