Incredible convo on Reddit between a British person & American:
🇺🇸: Here, if a parked car hasn't moved from a street for two weeks, it gets towed.
🇬🇧: That's crazy, what if someone goes on holiday for 3 weeks and has parked legally outside their house?
🇺🇸: Holiday for 3 weeks, that's a good one.

I’m a grad candidate and was impressed too! He’s making quite the stir. He had me going at first, I have to say!

Husband: Holy sh*t, do not bring those into our home, too dangerous.

Love GS, but, sadly, agreed. I cannot trust myself with a 20oz bag that funnels Thin Mints into my mouth like a sad woman's beer bong. You don't need to make thin mints bite-sized. I can already fit a whole cookie in my mouth.

Very comforting to see the old LA earthquake Twitter community made it over to BlueSky. Especially since the apps / sites I was looking were not showing any earthquakes yet. Was starting to wonder if it was all in my head 😬

Felt it on the westside. Didn’t like it.

Only 20 mins on Fitness+, but I am not coughing too much. Previously, I’d vomit from coughing just by walking up the stairs. I missed exercise; going 2 years without intense cardio was difficult, not only physically, but mentally.

Choosing positivity today! (Or at least giving it my best effort.)

A little positive news: after 2 years of my chronic illness and subsequent debilitating cough, 1 surgery, many meds and inhalers that all didn’t work… I completed my first indoor cycling class… pretty much the only intense workout that I love to do.

I lost my home to the Altadena wildfires. These are the logistics I never even considered until my entire neighborhood disappeared. Gale Sinatra, a USC professor, lost her home in Altadena to the Eaton Fire. She's struggled to fill prescriptions and doesn't have access to her mail.

It was a gift to connect with USC’s @galesinatra.bsky.social about losing her home to the Eaton Fire. I wrote this @businessinsider.com piece based on our convo.

For those who don’t know the fire’s timeline, it’s shocking. Went from 0-200 acres in 75 mins.

Incredulous, as I saw a post saying businesses should not use 🔥 emojis in marketing. As a lifelong Californian who has suffered from wildfires, we don’t need yall to not use emojis. We need the 100 businesses responsible for 71% of Earth’s carbon emissions to take responsibility for global warming.

Need help promoting this — anybody know someone with a large following willing to share on Instagram? I've sent to MutualAid and some local FB groups, but I've largely been off social media for over a year and don't really know who the tastemakers are! lol

Some positive news.. enjoyed seeing Tamworth hold their own against Tottenham for a solid 90 minutes. Great club! Thanks for proving a space to play and being so welcoming. I hope the Lambs had fun and are the talk of the town at their jobs tomorrow. Well-deserved.

There’s a small bookshop “adult scholastic book fair” at a local brewery

They vastly misunderstood the demand

Thank you, firefighters. Everyone, please listen to them and the police, especially if you have terrified children. Stay out of barricaded areas. Let them do their job. We owe them everything!

I remember sitting in my purple twin bed looking out the window when I saw flames had crept to the top of the mountain that our street backs up to, then heard pounding on the doors. What a feeling of relief it was for my sister, mother, and I. Somebody with sense showed up and sent us to safety.

My dad was one of those people that wouldn't let us leave until the fire dept was at our door, despite my mother begging him. Maybe he wanted to feel in control, but, we all know how difficult it is for firefighters with their resources to control a fire, let alone one man with a garden hose.

I'm very fortunate to be a safe distance — for now — from fires. However, the trauma of living in a fire prone area never goes away. Seeing coverage sends me back to my 10-year-old self watching the news in fear. Looking out my window to see ash softly float down to the ground like fresh snow.

I grew up partly in Los Angeles (Brentwood) and partly Upper Ojai, California — the brushy, rural backcountry up in the mountains. We had about an acre of land and an animal rescue ranch. My street backed up to a mountain and the area was very fire prone.

Donate to Recovery from the Loss of Our Home in the Eaton Fire, organized by David Booher We lost our home and possessions in the Eaton fire in Altadena, Cali… David Booher needs your support for Recovery from the Loss of Our Home in the Eaton Fire

I haven’t posted on here, but we lost our home in the Eaton Fire. We’re safe & the dogs are safe. For anyone looking for a way to help, I've launched a GoFundMe. This will help replace my personal copies & inventory of my comics I've written.

One step at a time. Love you all. ❤️

So sorry to hear, David. I grew up in LA & Ojai and have had to deal with my share of fire devastation as well. I'm writing an article for Business Insider about those affected by the fires, please contact me if you're interested. Might be cathartic. Regardless, I'll keep you in my thoughts!

I’m actually laughing out loud about Biden announcing the birth of his great granddaughter DURING the LA fire briefing, in front of a map showing 22,000+ acres engulfed in flames… and everyone clapping.

You really can’t make this up.

My mom used to say, “if we weren’t laughing, we’d be crying!”

Update: Spent the last hour in a patient room, trying not to fall asleep, obsessively checking my phone (no messages), staring at this msg requesting doctors discharge patients ASAP.

Help me, I’m American and pay for this “luxury” myself.

If you’re wondering what kind of day I’m having, this morning I put my doctor’s office address into Apple Music instead of GPS.

Me when I realized it’s January 3 and I have not completed a single house project on my winter sabbatical list.

Oh, my 2024 self, you were so foolishly ambitious with your 10+ multi-day projects. Keep that hope up in 2025.

Feeling better, time to see who I can nurture back to life! Repotting a plants, learning more & creating a water/feed/prune schedule, and going to plant some seeds, thanks to SoCal’s warm climate! Also installing a drip water system for when I get busy/depressed again.

If anyone cares lol (2/2)
