Using copyrighted content to train AI without permission is not ‘fair use’, US court rules in Thomson Reuters case - Music Business Worldwide However, the ruling might not apply to the music industry’s lawsuits against generative AI developers.

This is an interesting article written from the perspective of Intelectual Property holders in the music industry who are analyzing the case between Reuters (owns Westlaw) and Ross (company who used Westlaw to train an AI).

Fair Use is very complex.

House Democrats try, and fail, to subpoena Musk Notably missing the vote was Rep. Ro Khanna, who is close to Musk.

On my phone, this headline comes up as:

"House Democrats try, and fail, to ..."

See the full headline below.

New headline:

Republicans block Musk subpoena by Democrats

Both are accurate but blame different people.

Opinion | There are several reasons Musk wants to control Treasury payments. None of them are good. An unelected and unaccountable billionaire wants to dictate what working families can and cannot afford.

Musk used Paypal as a launch vehicle for SpaceX and Tesla. Paypal makes $ from transaction fees.

I think Musk is looking to position himself to get contracts for becoming the govt's payment system. Taking a transaction fee off every gov transaction is huge money.

Thanks @halsparks.com

This thing is a semantic problem. I like introducing bias into our explanations. In most reporting, bias and censorship are being used interchangeably.

I also need to make a diagram to help explain this!

When and how will robot umps arrive in the majors? Latest on MLB's plan A memo sent to every major league team shed light on how baseball sees the future of automated strike zones.

It seems so dumb that there is a strike zone box on TV for everyone to see except the home plate umpire, right?

This article talks about the challenges of implementing an automated system to call balls and strikes.

Automating anything is deceptively hard to do!

Analysis: Wait, exactly how many people work for the federal government? | CNN Politics In 40 years of explosive population, spending and debt growth, the size of the federal workforce has stayed pretty much the same.

Interesting read.

Summary: The federal workforce has barely grown since the 1960s and the billionaire saying we should fire a bunch of them to save money gets billions in government contracts.

In this case I used it to quickly get myself up to speed. I then used that knowledge to teach and help my son get through the homework. I think that specialized AI tutors are able to walk you through things like this while not giving the answer.

AI for the win!

my son needed help with 8th grade algebra homework. I couldn't remember how to distribute the powers.

Phone pic of his screen, upload to ChatGPT, asked it to explain how to solve the problem.

It read the image and gave me instructions for how to solve and the right answer.
