I don't know what to say beyond this.

Maybe it's because the video of him that I kept thinking about in the past few weeks was the one of him, after the ceasefire was announced, running to hug his siblings, who he had not seen in months; if I remember right, he said it had been months of not knowing whether they were alive or not.

I don't know why, but for some reason, in my head, was the belief that Hossam was among the kids that would make it; who would live to tell the story of his people, who would get a chance to grieve and then explore what else life had to offer.

I don't know why I held on to that belief.
