Yeah, you make a good point. I used to stew about all the prominent academics who opposed BDS before they didn't. A dear friend told me to just take the W (in our own middle-aged vernacular, obviously) and consider it a job well done. I'll do the same with your POV here.

The apprehension comes from a deep well of (unfortunately justifiable) mistrust, as you note. I don't think most people are opposed in principle to liberal orgs adopting our positions. My sense is that J-Street will have to do a lot more before anyone takes it seriously.

I'll be live on Breaking Culture this Tuesday at noon eastern to discuss scholasticide and the (pitiful) condition of higher education today. I'm sure the conversation will make its way to the current war, as well.

This is tomorrow! Still very underenrolled for this one, please share widely! We'll be discussing the role of labor and labor strikes within US prisons, specifically how incarcerated people understand the role their labor plays in upholding or disrupting the prison system.

Cover of a new novel, in yellow, that shows the title "Jerry and Rodrigo Go to War" and the author "Steven Salaita." The cover image shows an open clamp trap for animals with a small drawing of a coyote.

Right as a book of mine is close to being published, I worry that I'm about to make an enormous fool of myself. Even so, I am proud to announce the publication of my second novel, "Jerry and Rodrigo Go to War." May it provide you warm and meaningful company.

Palestine Solidarity in the Age of Reaction - Steve Salaita Should people involved with the Palestine solidarity movement in North America, traditionally leftist in orientation, seek alliances with the political right?

Here's a long essay analyzing the recent emergence of rightwing critics of Israel. I argue that it is a bad idea for the Palestine solidarity movement in North America to seek any kind of alliance with those critics or to validate the ideologies they represent.

from Sameer Project X:

THIRD winter in a row iN GENOCIDE! Donate now: https://chuffed.org/project/149178-sameer-project-x-mass-displacement-campaign

Let that sink in. Palestinians in Gaza’s body are malnourished, their immunity is low, they’re exhausted and they’re entering their third winter in genocide. This is happening with no adequate shelter for 1.47 million people, barely any tents and tarps coming in and zero caravans or building materials have entered.

Disaster is an understatement for what’s about to come and even though it feels like a drop in the ocean, the Translating Falasteen (
@translatingpal
) x Sameer continues the Yalla Na’merha (let’s build it) campaign. We can’t shelter a million and a half people but for around $350, your donations can provide a waterproof tent for 7-8 people!

Despair is a luxury that Palestinians in Gaza don’t have. This is why we need to rise and do whatever we can to end this genocide and for aid to come in. Disruption and direct action are crucial during this time.

Simultaneously we ask you to continue to provide material support to Palestinians in Gaza. Donate today to the Return Home Campaign: https://chuffed.org/project/149178-sameer-project-x-mass-displacement-campaign

Daily bombings, hundreds of thousands of people living in tents, cell phones brought in by the entity instead of medicine and food exploding in people's hands, approval of another fucking infrastructure of settler colonial genocide, and Palestinians continue to support each others' survival.

It's a little depressing how the bodies in Gaza haven't even been buried and US national socialists are already back to positioning Palestine as a faraway irrelevant cause (except when useful to build credibility for their celebrity politicians)

Palestine and the Politics of Purity - Steve Salaita Accusing anti-Zionists of “purity politics” is a lazy rhetorical evasion.

Do you get annoyed when uncompromising anti-Zionism is dismissed as "purity politics"? If so, you might find this short essay worth a read:

Palestine and the Making of a New New World - Steve Salaita The liberation of Palestine is, above all, a world-building project.

"One looks at the United States right now and wonders, What democracy? Which law? Where free speech? Whose human rights? If these existential treats can’t be located in the metropole, then we certainly won’t find them anywhere on the periphery."

I came to UK from Gaza seeking hope. Instead, I found complicity After a lifetime under Israeli siege and shelling in Gaza, Saher Safi built a life of his own. He expected Israel’s cruelty, but not the UK’s indifference.

Please read this amazing essay by my dear friend Saher Safi, who discusses his childhood in Bureij Refugee Camp, Gaza, and the pain of now witnessing genocide. Saher worked for months on this essay, which was a difficult process for him. He ended up producing some exceptionally powerful writing.
