A wonderful 38ft mural of the late great KURT VONNEGUT - who left us 19yrs ago today - in his hometown of Indianapolis.
A copy of Obstetrix by Naomi Kritzer standing against a wall painted pink, white, and dark blue.
In Obstetrix by @naomikritzer.bsky.social, Dr. Liz is kidnapped by a fundamentalist cult deep in the rural west, as they're in desperate need of an OB/GYN.
She has to survive long enough to escape, and help the girls trapped at the compound, if it's the last thing she does.
my wife has been premaking egg patties w little molds she got on amazon. if i heat that and a little sausage patty up while i toast a bagel or English muffin it makes a pretty dope breakfast sandwich
A selfie of Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarsinha, wearing a colored KN95. The image has a purple filter over it and the Still Here logo in white in the center.
In this week's Still Here (produced by @melaniemarich.bsky.social), @mileswgriffis.bsky.social and @betsyladyzhets.bsky.social chat with poet, author, and organizer Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarsinha about their new poetry collection, The Way Disabled People Love Each Other. bit.ly/4tJGTM6
After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X.
This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)

Cover for the Air and Nothingness Press anthology, Tea or Coffee, Stars, and Gravity, featuring a spacesuited astronaut stepping into the universe.
I was excited enough about the premise of the upcoming anthology, Tea or Coffee, Stars, and Gravity, from @aanpress.bsky.social to join the Kickstarter campaign as a backer. Now, I find myself included as one of the authors (no, I don't think my measly 25 bucks influenced the decision)!
Undiluted white supremacy is currently the governing logic of US refugee policy.
The late great Bob McKnight's artwork is at risk of being seized and destroyed if something isn't done about it. His dearest friend and mentee Rob Griggs has set up a GoFundMe to help save his property, including his extensive art archives. Bob LOVED animation and it's history, help preserve it!
I've written a little bit about this phenomenon here, where I mention how the google images result for George Moses Horton (oh whom we know of no surviving images) consistently produces a photograph of Martin Delaney. doi.org/10.1093/alh/...
I can't do much about anything but I could do this.
Get some (specifically requested) books into the hands of incarcerated folks at Rikers & support an indie bookstore at the same time.
(+ I ordered @chanda.blacksky.app's The Edge of Space-Time for me bc why not have faith that tomorrow will come)
we are ten fucking years into this shit and the only political theory that has ever mattered that entire time is "orange man bad"
NEW: Kansas passed an anti-trans law that has retroactively voided the existing IDs of transgender residents.
One major implication: this effectively hinders their access to the polls given the requirements in this state.
Things are escalating in states.

QUESTION:
Who knows of ANY research funding for US humanities scholars that has been awarded to a trans project in the past year?
Not saying that the awarding org *claims* to be open to those projects.
But actually *awarding* anything.
Please repost for visibility, it'd help me a lot!
Not sure what to tag this with, #HigherEd #TransStudies #Humanities #grants #something?
I'm a bit of a broken record on this, but usurping the power of the purse isn't just one constitutional violation among all the many others. It is, uniquely and singularly, the death of constitutional government altogether. Game over, end of story, you now live in an autocracy.
What You Can Do!: If Firestorm surviving and thriving is important to you, we welcome your support. Here are a few ways to pitch in.

A collective photo taken at Firestorm Books. Our team, including five humans and two dogs, is sitting on the sidewalk in front of the building looking relaxed. The sky is bright but cloudy and flags on the building hang without any indication of wind. The building is painted forest green and various posters and signs are visible in the windows, which reflect the sky. The largest reads "Immigrants Welcome."
Like a lot of small businesses in our region, Firestorm has been in financial distress for the last year. Hurricane Helene was our tipping point, but local cost of living increases, inflation, and higher occupancy costs are huge contributors. 1/9
Before the Challenger exploded, engineers tried to tell their bosses that the o-ring that failed would do exactly that. Their bosses decided their NASA contract - aka the money - was more important than safety and gave the go ahead anyway.
I think about that a lot lately.
i need to have a chat with the accent coach for the chess revival cast recording. what are we doing here people?!?
These are the books that librarian was fired for not reshelving in Rutherford, TN
Everyone pony the fuck fpr the librarian who just got sacked for refusing to remove LGBTQ books from the kids' section of the library.
"ICE agents will be stationed outside graduation events for the nation’s newest Marines to identify whether any of their family members are undocumented, according to the Marine Corps."
Wow! Anonymous cool person has offered to match all donations to my GoFundMe through April 5--up to a total of $1500! I can pay rent! I can write this weird new book! www.gofundme.com/f/help-nisi-...
Dozens of people showing up at members’ town halls in 2009 was enough for The Media to declare the Tea Party Movement™️ as a key force in American politics — for years — as the Obama administration was getting going.
Consider that when you see how those same papers cover today’s protests.
Sandra Wong, the great granddaughter of Wong Kim Ark, is preparing to march at the #NoKings Rally in San Francisco. Today is the 128th Anniversary of the SCOTUS decision affirming birthright citizenship.
A 9-year-old boy who made a plea to be released from an immigration detention center during a call with Ms. Rachel so he could attend his state spelling bee has been freed with his family, their lawyer says.
And formally, according to our law,
Depose him
Social movement scholar here to comment on No King again. a 🧵:
These protests are important b/c:
1.) as sustained image events, protests offer evidence of continued disapproval of the direction the country is going and disavowal of the country's leadership.
