The US general public forgets shit easily. We forgot how much chaos Trump brought to our lives the first time and we still allowed him to win for a second time. The US general public forgets shit and does stupid shit all the time because we're fucking morons.
I bet you that even after multiple mentions of the Strait of Hormuz on the news these past few weeks, the Usonian general public will still be unaware of it. I'm confident of this because we forgot Trump's 1st term when he started shit with Iran and we were told Hormuz = high gas prices.
The "duped voter" narrative is a comforting myth. If only we had better messaging.
The reality is tens of millions of voters looked at a platform of mass deportation, ethnic cleansing, state violence, and the dismantling of civil rights, clearly understood it, and said, "Yes, that is what I want."
New: 150 unionized ProPublica workers are on strike TODAY over AI, layoff protections, wages, and more.
They're asking readers to not visit ProPublica or engage with content on other platforms. It's the first work stoppage of its kind at the newsroom.

Incredible
Donald Trump due to your recent erratic statements and actions I believe you may be suffering from undiagnosed adhd and/or imposter syndrome. Please watch Bo Bornman "Inside" immediately !!!!!!!!!!
Before LLMs, you had the problem of some devs who didn't bother to dive deep or think through their assignment; they just wanted to quickly submit code that got the job done.
After LLMs, this problem has compounded exponential. Why bother checking the 100s of lines it spat out? The app works!
Cartoon of someone cycling on a narrow pavement on which the council have generously painted a cycle lane logo. They're really spoiling us. The cyclist is not short of exciting obstacles to navigate, what fun: potholes, brambles, a car parked on the pavement, broken glass, and the pole of a sign that reads Please use the cycle path

When I clock out from my main coding job and start working on my side project
I’ve been doing design+webdev for over 10 years and I have deep expertise building and implementing design systems.

Share of commuters using transit to get to work, among select big cities
Share of commuters driving to get to work, among select big cities
Since the Metro opened in 1976, DC has consistently had some of the highest transit use among any big US city—higher than Chicago, Philly, or SF.
The share of residents using cars to get to work is the lowest in the country outside of NYC.
That's been made possible thanks to Metro.
DC was the only postwar US city where residents successfully fought back against new freeways & chose to reallocate transportation funds instead to a brand-new metro network.
Rather than just a line or two through the city center—like Atlanta, Miami, Baltimore—DC got a real network. It paid off.
The DC Metro
Happy birthday to the Washington Metro, which opened 50 years ago today with service on 4.6 mi of Red Line between Rhode Is. Ave & Farragut N. System now serves 130 mi.
The DC Metro shows that, with good planning & enough investment, the public sector can succeed & build something extraordinary.
I’ve had coworkers complain about having to approve every unique bash command that Claude generates and I’m over here thinking, “yeah, that’s the fucking point”
tech ceos in the 90s: a computer is a bicycle for the mind
tech ceos in the 2020s: remember that c0ldplay_mp3.exe file you clicked on a few decades back? it’s now asking for root access to your laptop and a $1B valuation
the progress of the last couple decades really has been something, i mean just think of how long i’d need to leave kazaa running on my computer in 2001 to fuck it up this badly

The FCC has banned all new foreign-made routers unless they get an exemption from the Pentagon or DHS
This is precisely how a government sets up the framework to install a backdoor, create a firewall, and switch off the internet when it's convenient for them.
Tumblr post by arahir i just can't convey the frustration and sorrow that it's been to grow up at first without the internet and then watching it bloom into this useful, fun, connecting force you sometimes spent time on, only for it to degrade into this constant oppressive waste of time and energy where people are constantly pumping out algorithmically designed content for max algorithmic appeal and even the most simple search generates either no results or an infinite abyss of ai generated slop none of which is usable or correct. we briefly had a library of alexandria and then fed it into a paper shredder so advertisers could sell a random mash of pulp back to us at a premium.
Sums up my experience growing up
Yeah, it’s looking like they’re winning the EV standards war. The Trailseeker comes with the Tesla plugs even.
OP said the same thing deer.social/profile/did:...
Yeah, I can see myself going to the one behind Bank of America in NP lol
Given I've relied on my Subaru's AWD on dusty trails to hiking spots plenty of time. I'm now eyeing the Trailseeker
Well that’s disappointing to hear. I also don’t drive often is another factor, so leaving an EV parked for a week gets me worried I’ll have a dead car. Was thinking more like the gas tank was a backup in case the battery dies.
Charging at home is not an option for me, so I’m side-eyeing a plugin hybrid like the RAV4
I'm convinced that workers at haunted hotels or boats or whatever try to induce psychosis in their visitors to make them think they're hearing or seeing a person who isn't there
