@whatfreshhowell.bsky.social I'm very excited to hear your snow biking episode! I get a lot of comments from people about how dangerous winter biking must be, but no one has been able to explain what that danger is. In my opinion, it is by far the best way to get around Saskatoon in the winter

If no oil is extracted within your city limits, every gas pump pumps money out of your regional economy.

Bicycles and pedestrians keep the money circulating.

Car brand BYD's new SUV ad pokes fun at people walking and cycling, comparing them to Horse & Carts.

It joins a long list of car ads that sell a false promise of convenience and aspiration while punching down at sustainable transport modes.

So I made it a bit more realistic...

Things that DO make traffic worse:

- TOO MANY CARS
- SUBURBAN SPRAWL
- CAR DEPENDENCY (even for short trips)
- Bigger vehicles
- On-street parking
- ride-hailing

Things that DON’T make traffic worse (actually mitigate congestion):

Bike lanes
Bus lanes
Decongestion pricing

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Front Burner - The big problem of 'car bloat' Listen to Front Burner - The big problem of 'car bloat' by CBC on Podcast Addict. SUVs and pickup trucks make up more than four out of every five new cars sold in the U.S., and in Canada, they represented 86 per cent of all vehicles sold in May of last year. Lots of these vehicles bill themselves as “safe,” but safe for who? The drivers and passengers? Or everyone else?David Zipper, a senior fellow at the MIT Mobility Initiative and a contributing write

Two children in front of a very tall pickup truck

Why are we asking our children to "share the road" with oversized vehicles? Without adequate infrastructure, the freedom of a person to drive these vehicles conflicts with the freedom of children to move around neighborhoods and cities safely.

Okay bike nerds. Anyone have a suggestion for a wide (52cm+) gravel drop bar that's from a Canadian brand? Apparently we just make flat bars here

I don't understand why hatchbacks aren't more popular. It's like a sedan but more useful!

I should probably be using something like the t2 for what I do with these skis anyway. What Alpina boot is that? I'm using a Fischer bcx6

They just feel too long when turning. They actually feel pretty good on the flats considering I'm used to race skis. I think part of my issue might be that I'm using a nnnbc binding with a pretty beefy boot. I'd probably be better off with a plastic boot

The good thing about rarely driving my car is that I do not care at all about gas prices. A 10¢/L difference is $4 /tank which, if I fill up once a month, is less than $50/year
