at least you learnt not to do it again...hope I remember this for next year!

the number of deadlines I have for the first 10 days of January is incredible...grant reviews, grant rebuttals, reference requests, marking...anyone would think that academics don't need a winter break...sigh

Thank you so much, was great to hear about your journey and to see you interviewing the others!

Come and hear about how the synaptic protein, SV2a, is not always found at synapses. To find out where else it is, come and see our group's poster #384 today. #AAIC25

A compilation of reported alterations in the cerebrospinal fluid proteome in Alzheimer's disease de Geus et al. report that a compilation of CSF proteomics studies in Alzheimer’s disease identified 61 consistently altered proteins across mass spectrome

We have a new paper alert🎉

This work compiles all reported protein changes in the cerebrospinal fluid of Alzheimer’s patients across studies using mass spectrometry, Olink, and SomaScan platforms.

Centre Director, UK DRI at Cardiff The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), principally funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC), and Cardiff University are seeking to appoint an outstanding established academic to a new Chair ...

I don’t think many of my American scientist friends will leave the US despite the recent political changes affecting the NIH.

But if they were interested, they should apply to become centre director here in Cardiff!

This opens up new synaptic tragets and avenues for the therapeutic targeting of synapses in AD. This was a great team effort by Jessica Griffiths joint with Seth Grant lab, Eleonore Scheegans and the UKDRI MAP team. The end. 6/6

Taken together, we believe we have derived a pseudotemporal profile of synaptic changes in human AD and shown that they are associated with changes in the astrocyte proteome, particularly that of PAPs. 5/6

Alongside these synaptic changes, we found a astrcoyte signature that was enriched for proteins at the peri-synaptic astrocytic processes (PAPs). This astrocyte signature increased with pathology and was associated with reduced synaptic resilience. 4/6

Mitochondrial proteomic changes dominated in the low pathology region, inhibitory changes in the mid pathology region and widespread synaptic transmission pathways were most prominant in the higher pathology region. 3/6

We showed that there are synaptic proteomic changes in a region of low pathology before synapse loss and that synapse loss and proteomic changes increased in regions with higher pathology. 2/6
