From @chatlanis.bsky.social: In June, 11 U.S. cities will welcome millions of fans for soccer’s World Cup. But this year, the conflict in the Middle East and the congressional impasse over funding are creating additional complications.

I dipped out but chiming in to say - I wouldn't be surprised if the final count was several hundred thousand people. This demonstration was huge!
Smokey Sims, activist and actor, said he’s so impressed by the nyc protest
Giuseppe Palazzolo is a former MAGA supporter who said that he became disillusioned with the Trump administration because of the war with Iran. He thinks that it’s a waste of taxpayer dollars and not with the American public wants.
This mom and daughter team came to nyc from Minneapolis. They said they wanted to join this massive protest and are furious two of their neighbors have been shot and killed by ICE.
So far no security issues! Everything is safe and people are just walking!
Interestingly lots of people have declined interviews, different from the last protest. Some people said they were afraid to be on camera
Had to run up about 4-5 blocks to make it to the front. On our way to Times Square. It’s packed
Lots of costumes, signs, songs calling for abolition of #ICE, authoritarianism, and international wars paid for on the backs of taxpayers.
I’m covering the #nokings protest in #nyc today. There’s easily what feels like 100,000+ people here. Stay tuned for updates with @statesnewsroom.com @stateline.org

The joy of having lived in queens the past two years is this -- sitting in a cafe in my neighborhood on a Sunday where I can order chai -- yes, actual chai -- and where a Bengali grandma in a beautiful saree walks in smiling and singing ghazals. A type of warmth I haven't encountered elsewhere.
The first news video I contributed to is here. @chatlanis.bsky.social is so good at this!
