Thank you Kate, that's very kind. I read your piece as well - microbranching enjoyers unite!

(in my head, where everything needs a label, I used to call this 'expressive choices' but microbranching has a much nicer ring to it)

From the Ground Up by Úna-Minh Kavanagh A narrative-driven game about everything above ground.

Love narrative-driven games? Games that you can complete in less than 30 minutes? Plants? Irish made? Games that you don't even need to download?!

Then I think you'd like From the Ground Up, a game I made in 7 days about living and beyond.

House hunting in Dublin be like:
1. Sent an email last night about a viewing.
2. Reply this morning: viewing today but there's a bid already at 25k over asking.
3. Go to a viewing 4 hours later: bid already at 40k over asking.

Normal country.

If an AI was a good creative co-brain it would say; this bit’s shit; that’s weird; you wrote that metaphor already; who talks like that?; wow the snarky girl suddenly got polite; who cares what a tree looks like; bored now!; that rhymed, cut it; what does this add?; you spoilt the joke…

Ira Glass had good words about that too:

All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. [...] But your taste [...] is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you.

Oh, every one is always nostalgic for the geocites era web but when somebody actually makes a platform that crashes every 10 minutes, suddenly everybody wants future technology, I see how it is.

There's this influential first person game from the mid-2000s that's a short but very tight experience, isn't gun focused, has unique gameplay mechanics, is all about platforming, only received one massively expanded sequel, and has an ending theme song called "Still Alive."

No wait, there's two.

I found out recently that the "death to America" thing is intentional mistranslation, and the phrase would more accurately be translated as "down with America" which of course sounds way less extreme.
Anyway death to America.
