If I had to guess it's because they don't want to have to be liable for drug interactions and any assaults that might happen on their watch because they don't have enough staff to monitor things.

Yeah, I can dig all that.

Yeah, date activities cost money. Hell, social activities in general cost money. Navigating that with people who you may not be particularly close with yet is tricky as hell. Add in any societal power imbalance and it's even trickier.

That's a fantastic bit of advice. I'm always telling people everything can be edited and, if the edits change it, that's okay. Stories are like kids. You have a basic idea and you start with that basic idea but it will do what it will do based on its unique attributes. Just gotta support it.

Yeah we were very "let's learn about a thing by going to see it!" before Covid. Then we became shut-ins and one of the husbands ended up hella burnt out because he was on a Covid response team that never caught a break. We're better now but it was ROUGH. lol

Dogs generally react to smells and sounds. It's possible a neighbor is doing something that he's picking up but is outside of your awareness.

I've done some cursory math. For flight+car+hotel it's like $3k for me, a husband, and our kid to go visit for 5 days. That's not *that* bad on the whole. The trick is going to be banking that much time off from work.

My brother also gave me a bit of crap for not visiting him.

A. I was never invited. If I invited myself I'd be a pushy brat, wouldn't I?

B. Until my parents headed there I didn't know where in Tennessee he lived and he moved to a bigger house that I still don't know where it is past Pulaski.

Before leaving, my mother kept asking me when we're coming to visit. I could not make her understand my work lumps sick leave with PTO so my migraines eat up all my PTO.

Should it be that way?

But if I want enough money to travel, I need to put up with it.

And now work in pain, I guess.

You are dead on. There is *so* much of this. So, yeah, everyone is exhausted. And I'm positive that's intentional.

If it makes you feel better, when I did Neuro scheduling we had to do a lot of, "Oh, it's just a standard check up for folks your age." shenanigans when people would call in wondering why their DPOA made them an appointment so they wouldn't cancel it.
