Freedom of speech is under growing pressure. We support @recommon.org and Eva Pastorelli, who is being sued by ENI, using common corporate intimidation tactics.

We are also concerned by ENI's CEO's statements suggesting that the EU consider returning to Russian gas imports 👇

The #SantaMarta Conference comes at a decisive geopolitical moment and for Europe - phasing out fossil-fuels is a question of security, resilience and long-term prosperity.

The EU has opportunity: end its own fossil fuel dependence and actively contribute to shaping of a global transition framework

I‘m 💯 here for this content. Love to see green investments pay off, if only for a month. Never waste a crisis to prop cheaper safe longterm assets.

Just wish we didnt need war to get to this. We can do this by demand side action, not deadly supply shocks. But I guess human nature is wired that way.

Climate shocks don’t get equal coverage. New research by DPIR's @acalacino.bsky.social, Mats Ahrenshop, @fgenovese.bsky.social  & @hayleypring.bsky.social shows fossil fuel–heavy areas mute reporting, while others see clearer climate coverage: https://tinyurl.com/ye2hjdtf

Europeans want more renewables, even if it increases energy bills Public enthusiasm for clean energy comes as the Iran war exposes Europe’s vulnerability to global oil and gas markets.

"Yes, please!" - Europeans want more renewables.

Polling across 6 EU countries shows 60% support maintaining or accelerating the rollout.

There is no public mandate to roll back the EU climate agenda; the public is calling to go further ⏩⏩⏩

👀 Wow !
The #EuropeanCentralBank just declared #fossilfuels a threat to the economy of #Europe. Not about what, but ❗ who ❗ says this.

Yes, obvious. So this isn’t new. But hearing it from the ECB is.

Energy transition isn’t only about #climate anymore.

Report: Taxing fossil fuel profits, not consumers Taxing fossil fuel industry profits would provide a structural signal to investors, discouraging continued investment in fossil fuel activities and reallocating capital in the energy transition,…

💡Taxing extraordinary profits by fossil companies is building momentum!

⚡Money generated can be used to shield households from spiking energy bills & support them in energy transition.

✅It is short-term measure - but it does not have to stop there! We urgently need permanent tax on fossil profits!

The Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) were created to protect public health—decreasing risks of cancer and heart and lung disease. Updated in 2024, these standards were just rolled back by the Trump administration. We will see them in court for repealing these stronger standards.

In 2022, Italian oil company Eni approached Kenyan farmers with a pitch: plant castor, and we’ll buy the crop to turn into green fuel.

But an investigation by POLITICO and @source-material.org found many smallholders were left with no pay — and no food.

Solar is winning the energy race The world's cheapest power source is scaling at warp speed, pushing coal, gas and nuclear aside.

Global #solar energy capacity has skyrocketed over the last decade.
Solar now supplies about 10% of the world's energy.
Global solar capacity could hit 9,000 GW by 2030 — enough to meet more than 20% of the world's #energy demand.

Seeds of doubt: The dark side of an Italian energy giant’s green jet fuel promise Italian state-owned oil giant Eni presents its Kenyan biofuel project as a model for sustainable air travel. Many small farmers say it’s failed them.

Italian oil giant Eni says its Kenya biofuel project is a model for fair and sustainable agriculture.

So why are farmers telling us they were pushed to grow castor beans to make green fuel that no one came to buy?

💧 EU backs new water pollution rules👏

Action on PFAS, pesticides & pharma pollution is long overdue.

But delays until 2039 (!) and new loopholes risk slowing progress...

Worse, plans to weaken vital water laws could open the door to even more pollution!

Recommendations to the EU leaders This crisis is another stark reminder that Europe cannot achieve real energy security whilst remaining dependent on fossil fuel imports, regardless of their origin.

European Council meets tomorrow to decide on the EU's response to the crisis at hand.

At home, the response must be targeted, temporary & protect the most vulnerable - without distorting the energy transition.

Internationally, the EU & its members must engage in united diplomacy to stop the war.

For those in Europe obviously and legitimately freaking out about Russia pushing its fossil fuels as the US is attacking Iran, reminder that Europe very much allowed the US to push for LNG when Russia first attacked Ukraine.

China released its 15th Five-Year Plan (FYP). The plan reinforces the rapid expansion of clean energy, but it does not translate this momentum into stronger binding emissions targets.

It’s a welcome step for industrial decarbonisation — but speed, ambition and real results must follow.

A “made-in-Europe” strategy must drive climate ambition, resilience and quality jobs — not undermine global decarbonisation.

1/ Europe is changing the dealer, but keeping the addiction.
Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU was 44% dependent on Russia for its gas supplies. Four years later, the U.S. is well on track to become Europe’s largest gas supplier, overtaking Norway.

It already said it would stop factoring in lives saved to its cost-benefit analysis of air pollution rules. Now, we’re taking them to court.
