Honest question for NYC tourists: Why do knick-knack shops that sell tiny Statue of Liberty figurines and novelty t-shirts also sell luggage? Did y'all buy so much stuff here you need another bag, unexpectedly? No shade.

🚨 I'm launching a site and newsletter to track and celebrate open-work culture in news. I'll be posting bi-weekly updates on the best new open source projects from the 350+ newsrooms we track. First issue is here: openjournalism.news/2026/03/15/o...
This is great! Do you all have a newsroom GitHub account? We should add it to our list of orgs to keep tabs on if so.
I've been thinking about @kleinmatic.bsky.social + @palewi.re's great article about the lost culture of sharing in journalism and wanted to give a big shoutout to my former employer @themarshallproject.org for preserving the flame.

Yup. It felt like I needed to keep an eye on the real world.

Summarization code starting to do its thing when a repo doesn’t have a description.
MUCH WAS DECIDED BEFORE YOU WERE BORN
I once had it write a recursive delete command procedure for OpenVMS and it deleted every file in my SYS$LOGIN. That was a few model generations ago, to be fair. And other than that its DCL isn’t half bad.
My repo auto-summarizer looks like it’s working.
Claude Code showing some old school unix sass.
The answer was Spider-Man, right? Action is his reward.
I’ve noticed this as well. Bursts of insanely high productivity that need to be padded by rest, rather than hours of medium-productivity. It helps if I can context switch and alternate to personal projects or even just talking through small, random ideas with Claude.

$4 is a good deal. Need to find one of those carts.
My old newsroom coming in hot...
If this means we’re getting a four-hour Heart of Glass episode please let me know so I can get time off of work.
Neat! And thanks for working on this. Do let us know if there are newsrooms we’re missing!
