Apologies for the mishap! I am a big fan of your work and wonder how get the time to keep writing such good quality pieces. Anyway, keep it up.

At the moment, there is a recall possibility for certain wrongdoing / criminal conduct which I think has worked well. I think you could do something similar for MPs trying to switch parties.
That’s a different question where I am more sympathetic to a change in rules.
Bad take. We are primarily electing parties rather than leaders. We wouldn’t have an election if a leader died and it shouldn’t be different if the party ejects them. Also, even if a US President dies, resigns it is impeached, there isn’t an election!
Very sorry to hear that. He was one of the great legal bloggers.
I hope that blog is still around somewhere as I plan to reference it when / if I get around to writing something on teaching spelling!
I really don’t get why you would pack a week in advance! Night before unless you are planning a major pre-flight night out.
I don’t normally repost my own #EduSky posts but, with the benefit of hindsight, putting this out there just before the big match might not have been the best timing…
(I mean, it made sense to me when I did it - I was going to watch the football as well!)
Now I am off to watch the football.
Following my exchange with @daisychristo.bsky.social earlier, I couldn't resist making the headline a #QTWTAIN! In light of her piece earlier today, I hope Daisy also appreciates the effort I put into footnote 2...
This new piece on my Substack is mainly a slightly revised version of something I wrote for @hollykorbey.bsky.social's The Bell Ringer last month with some initial comment on the "over-teaching phonics" debate which seems to be trending in the USA.

Random question - do you know of a good biography of him?
I am very much here for this niche content. Do you have a sample?
Yes, it’s an obvious pick for sure! However, every time I teach it, I reminded what a great book it is. Superb descriptions, wonderful characters, moral dilemmas… all within an adventure story which makes you want to keep reading.
🤣 I try to resist doing them all the time because they are such a journalistic cliche but there’s a very good reason why journalists use them….
A rare example of a double #QTWTAIN in both the heading and sub-heading in this piece by @daisychristo.bsky.social. Paging @rentouljohn.bsky.social who won’t want to miss this!

I’ve published a new book! 🥳
It is pitched at new teachers. Short. Easy reading. Helps make sense of what goes on in schools.
Check it out.

There is a gap in the market for this, I think. When I started my ECT years, I looked around for something like this and couldn’t find anything good. Hope it does well!
This might be why I am less keen on Impossible Creatures than Katherine Rundell’s earlier work…
Way above my level of ambition but when I manage to fix even the most basic things with, I feel happy! 😃
💯- that’s partly a function of the increasing complexity and electrical nature of cars as well as loss of skills. (One thing I used YouTube for was - what to do when your electronic key fob goes dead!).
Cover of The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, showing jungle foliage, a small plane and a large river running through the middle of it.
Although personally I would mention Katherine Rundell’s The Explorer, arguably her finest work (amongst many superb books).
Yes, that’s a fair point although i think there is a countervailing trend of people not knowing how to do simple DIY compared with earlier generations. For me, it’s not so much replacing tradesmen as helping me do really basic things with less frustration!
A huge pile of Young Samurai books and with some Laura Marlin mysteries at the bottom.
Literally standing in front of some adventure books when I saw this!
This is from the pile of books that my kids didn’t want to throw out. The Laura Marlin books by Lauren St John were popular but the Young Samurai books by Chris Bradford would be their top pick. Fantastic historical adventures!
My Dad is one of the least “handy” Dads out there so YouTube has been very helpful for all kinds of basic things for me!
YouTube might well be radicalising and rotting people’s brains but it’s also very handy for teaching you how to do basic things around the house so who’s to say whether it is a net benefit or not?
This is what most tourists don’t realise!
There are some review sites out there. I would advise using them to find a few local ones and then interview a 2 or 3. It’s v v hard to beat the market so my approach gave a lot of priority to low charges as long as they were sensible and responsive.
Or maybe she can just play tomorrow with wings!
I quite like that there is only 1 automatic place though - makes it a doubly huge game. I reserve the right to change my mind if Rochdale win though!
