People like Pete Hegseth believe that China manufactures the flu as a weapon.

He then tells China, potentially our biggest military enemy, that he is ensuring that US troops *will* be made vulnerable to the flu.

When you're too stupid to reconcile your conspiracy theories.

Forest Service Cuts Would Devastate Years Of Hawaiʻi Research, Experts Warn The Forest Service is looking to close its Big Island labs — the only ones of their kind, researchers say, that help protect the Pacific's unique tropical forests.

The Forest Service’s proposed closure of research facilities in Hawaiʻi, including the Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry and a biocontrol lab, threatens years of research on biocontrol agents and disease-resistant ʻōhiʻa strains, impacting efforts to protect Hawaiʻi’s forests and watersheds.

This Data Center Is Getting a $77 Million Tax Break to Create One Job No other project in the country has gotten such a large subsidy to create so few jobs, according to watchdogs.

A New Jersey data center will reportedly receive $77 million in tax breaks — while only creating one permanent job.

One job, in exchange for higher utility bills, noise pollution, and potential groundwater pollution.

Is it any wonder communities are organizing to stop data centers?

"If we're serious about carbon dioxide removal, it's going to be the largest thing humanity has ever done," says David Ho, a professor of oceanography at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and an expert on the marine carbon cycle. "It really should be something that governments pour effort into, like the Manhattan Project."

I'm like a broken record about this.

Globe showing the Atlantic Ocean with arrows depicting the AMOC circulation: warm surface currents (pink/red) flowing northward from the tropics toward the Arctic, and cold deep return currents (blue/purple) flowing southward. The background shows sea surface temperature trends, with a prominent blue cold patch, the "cold blob", south of Greenland, contrasting with warming (orange/red) across the rest of the ocean.

1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.

In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.

Most people have no idea. 🧵

Amazon, which saved $4B in taxes under Trump's Big Ugly Bill, has cut 30,000 jobs since last October.

Verizon, which saved $2B, plans to cut 15,000 jobs this year.

Meta, which saved $3B, plans to lay off 20% or more of its workforce.

Trickle-down economics is a cruel joke.

Medical research is being decimated. It’s has flatlined and now half of 2025 and 1/3 of 2015-2024 average. Future generations will suffer dearly because of delayed and missing treatments and cures.

Germany just activated its largest ever solar installation — one farm, 1.5 million homes, zero carbon. The #CottbusSolarPark covers 3,500 hectares and produces 2.1 tw-hours annually, replacing two coal plants that operated on this same land until 2022. #SolarPower #ActOnClimate #Renewables

Democracy will not come
Today, this year
  Nor ever
Through compromise and fear.

I have as much right
As the other fellow has
 To stand
On my two feet
And own the land.

I tire so of hearing people say,
Let things take their course.
Tomorrow is another day.
I do not need my freedom when I'm dead.
I cannot live on tomorrow's bread.

     Freedom
     Is a strong seed
     Planted
     In a great need.

     I live here, too.
     I want freedom
     Just as you.

Langston Hughes

We had to wear summer dresses in summer term at my boarding school, though we could wear jumpers or blazers. We froze. As an adult.I always wear trousers until it actually warms up. We also had to leap into the unheated swimming pool & nearly drowned, even good swimmers. Heating was by date, too.

Even more scary now than when you wrote it. I can only hope that renewable energy will become so cheap that technologies like desalinisation will become more affordable, which would help a little.

We tend to think that we are heading to a better future, only to have that illusion shattered.

Reminder: The Trump regime cancelled nearly $500 million in federal contracts for mRNA vaccine development last year.

Tiny Microbes Hiding in Soil May Help Pull Rain From The Sky, Study Reveals Tiny organisms on the ground – bacteria and fungi – have a "superpower" that allows them to reach up into the atmosphere and pull down the rain, according to a recent study.

Bio-precipitation cycle with fungi: "As wind kicks up, their ice-making proteins are launched into the clouds. They act as powerful "seeds".

And industrial agriculture relies on extensive use of fungicide. We need to #Unlearn it
