I'm honored to have been invited to join this remarkable group of scholars!
Looking forward to sharing some thoughts on imagined prayers in the metrical homilies of Jacob of Serugh.

Congratulations, Dr. Tucker!!!
I suppose this is what I deserve for assigning Kant.
Not a single one of my 33 students told me that the Canvas module for today wasn't published (meaning, not a single one of my 33 students did the reading, meaning we're all going to encountering Kant together for the first time in class).
Pray for me.
Our district is off most Jewish high holidays (which is great!), so they take the week before and after Easter to ensure they cover Passover.
(there's also an enormous amount of wealth out here, so it's not uncommon for people to jet off to Europe or Japan or wherever, so a long break is popular)
If you're wondering how it feels to finally have my kids back in school after their two-week spring break that did not align with my university's break, the answer is: it feels like 1500 new words towards my current project!!
Totally my first thought! Though I'd assumed jut a mix of Francis (as the other pope from the Americas) and Leo. But now that you've said it, I see some JP2, too.
A dear friend shared her Olympics local presale slot with me and now we're headed to the Men's Team Artistic Gymnastics finals at #LA28 (plus tennis and women's soccer!)
fingers crossed we get another "pommel horse guy" moment of brilliance
Congrats!!! I’m still waiting to hear; my spouse got his rejection email so I have fingers crossed that my time slot email might be coming!
A winning combination!!
You can totally do a big national conference while parenting, but it does take planning. Let me share all my tips and tricks! Let me make sure you know all the resources and options available!
We figured out nursing/pumping in the conference lactation room (singular! for a 10k person conference!) and walking 1 mile each way to deliver baby or bottles in between sessions.
I’ve brought a spouse, used the onsite childcare, and left the littles at home.
We’ve debated AirBnBs vs hotel rooms.
As #SBLAAR26 paper acceptances go out, anyone who’s trying to figure out to juggle parenting while at a national conference should say hi!
I presented at my first SBL w/my 4 month old in the audience (paper title, appropriately, was “Babes Who Need Milk: some subtitle about anti-Jewish polemic”)
Congratulations! Your proposal, Scenting Idolatry: "Garlic and Onions" in Ephrem's Writings, has been accepted by the Syriac Studies Section program unit. The meeting will be held in Denver, Colorado, USA, from 21 to 24 November 2026.
It’s been couple years since I’ve presented a proper paper at #SBLAAR, but I couldn’t miss the chance to riff off Susan Ashbrook Harvey in honor of Scenting Salvation’s 20th anniversary.
See you in Denver!
Watching my tiny alma mater play Oklahoma’s only HBCU for the NAIA Men’s Basketball Championship tonight.
There’s something really charming about college athletics sans the crazy money and marketing machines.
The one and only time I completed a March Madness Bracket, by total fluke, it ended up in the top 99th percentile of ESPN brackets.
So obviously, I immediately retired.

... but not later than Monday, April 1, 2024 (really, not an April Fool's Joke).
I do think it was this, since many schools have holidays around [Catholic/Protestant] Easter + it was the start of the month, making April 1 easy to miss/sneak up on you?
But also a bit strange when you consider that NAPS of all people should know that Easter is celebrated on multiple dates!
(the shade of blue is closer IRL and obviously I have scarlet velvet on my hood for theology and he has philosophy blue. but other than not having piping on the inner panel [my fault! we didn't specify that on the order form, which has lots of customization options!] they are basically the same.)
It's regalia purchasing season, so let me once again plug getting a custom gown from www.capandgowndirect.com
I paid full price for the official one from our university. My husband paid 1/3 the price with Cap and Gown Direct.
They look virtually identical, and his has pockets.
I'm giving a test tomorrow, too, so I'll get to add grading 66 short essays to the mix 🙃
Somehow evaluating paper proposals for four different conference units, reading apps for a scholarship committee, and kicking off the search/being committee chair for our church's new children's minister all fell in the same week, and 10/10 would not recommend.
Putting together an SBL proposal and the 150 max word proposal abstract is TOUGH.
(the cheeses in question are Humboldt Fog, a very tangy goat cheese and Fromage d'Affinois, a double cream that will ruin all other bries for you. I'm sure in the wide world of cheese they're not *that* fancy* but they're fancy enough that I only get them at 50% off when Ralphs' deli overstocks)
Which means I have just enough time to head home and whip up a little charcuterie board with my favorite fancy cheeses before picking up H from daycare.
It's been a rough few days out there. Take a minute and do something nice for yourself!
Today I did my taxes, replaced my key fob battery, prepped class notes for two weeks, wrote a quiz, cleared my email, and helped two lost transfer students find their class... all by 2:00!
Southwest was always quirky, but all the pieces worked together. Two free checked bags per a person was incredible—and as a result there was always tons of overhead bin space. Then private equity went and ruined everything.
Not only have they taken away everything distinctive about the airline, they’ve managed to roll out the changes in the worst possible way.
Southwest implementing its no free checked bags policy before implementing assigned seating has created an absolute hellscape of plane boarding.
what are the best staplers? the ones that never jam and aren't finicky, even if you're someone who has weak grip strength and likes to hold them sideways and staple in the air instead of using the table??
I would pay good money for the perfect stapler.
