Global soybean production is highly concentrated—just three countries (USA, Brazil, Argentina) produce ~75% of the world’s supply. In 2012, all three saw harvest failures. Our study finds that about one-third of the loss that year was due to human-induced climate change.

To the PhD committee: @agroclim.bsky.social, @anabastos.bsky.social,@karinvdwiel.bsky.social,@zscheischlerjak.bsky.social & Peter Verburg: Thank you for inspiring my work, for taking the time to read my thesis, for being in Amsterdam in person for the defence, and for joining the celebration 🥳
A huge thank you to Dim Coumou, @annevanloon.bsky.social, and Jeroen Aerts for your guidance throughout this journey. Working with you has been an absolute pleasure, and I look forward to many more collaborations in the years to come.
Early January, I defended my PhD thesis. After nearly half a decade of researching climate and crops, I'm taking a moment to celebrate a journey filled with learning, discovery, and wonderful scientific collaborations. 1/n
