Lou Zocchi passed away last week. The mystery of this 1973 Alien Space Battle Manual attachment TV game that shouldn't or didn't exist will forever remain a mystery.

💾 We created a cleaning mechanism for 8" floppy disks!
You can 3D print it yourself and help preserve old media.
Download it here: buff.ly/JPYiCtb

Did you find any early TV tenis games before the Electrotennis?
Yesterday, @jdyer.bsky.social asked about the validity of the "Pong coin box" myth - that being when Atari put the prototype of Pong in Andy Capp's Tavern, the machine stopped working because the coin box was so full.
I examined this when I did my video series, but never broke it down properly 🧵
It is very easy to see what parts of Gaming Alexandria output if any are done with Ai tools. Scans, dumps, etc. don't make sense at all. I understand you may not want to support it, but trust doesn't play a role here.
Introducing OmniDrive! A firmware modification for MediaTek MT1959-based optical disc drives manufactured by Hitachi-LG Data Storage that enables features that allow for better, more complete reading of discs, including proprietary game discs.

First time traveling abroad for a concert and of course it is video game related :D Stardew Valley is my girlfriend's most favorite game, so this was the perfect gift. Looking forward to an evening of soothing tones!
💿 A digitized Škoda promotional adventure from 1997 — a bizarre CD-ROM mixing marketing with point-and-click gameplay and a 3D showroom.
We’ve preserved it, and Jakub Škrdla wrote about it here:

My favorites are The Good Place, Brooklyn 99 and Galavant
Guess you didn't watch the video
Tribal?
They don't work for me either
That was the first thing that popped into my mind when I got the hint that it's something unofficial :D Guess I earned my game historian card for today.
I searched for the last commercial physical release that wasn't a rerelease or a retro-themed thing years after. And it seems it was a Czech game, at least according to MobyGames!

It has until 2030 to do so. And they basically just need to make that amount and wait for sell through. The 160mil is the number manufactured until 2013 mainly for the secondary markets in the late years.
Congrats! Long time in the making :)
Resurfacing can be done at home with even better control. There is a person that is a materials scientist and tries to help people with tutorials.

It really is almost all there. MAME has a netlist system specially for these and most of the challenges are solved. It just needs somebody with great lowl level computer engineering/electronics knowledge to input it and debug it. We can only prepare the documentation in the meantime...
This is a pretty big deal; Heavyweight Champ is an early predecessor to fighting games, is TTL-based (and therefore difficult to emulate) and there are no extant units that I'm aware of. All we've had is a few precious seconds of it being played from a newscast. Here's hoping it lives again soon.
That is amazing news. I suggest scanning with as much resolution as possible, the schematics are often hard to read.
Thanks for the hard work!
Today I learned that there are Czech games for the Atari Portfolio. I hope the platform is easy to emulate.
Found all but one for download too! I am now wondering if any of them got onto the PD disks distributed by the local game store JRC (the biggest and still exists, they loved everything Atari).
I had a dream today about the woes of dumping 8 inch floppies. I guess I need to get to the stack of them I want to do all summer ^^
There are a few different lists like this around, but most are platform specific and very brief. I am trying to merge them all and add sourcing for all of these claims, something that disappears very easily! It's also on a wiki, so other people can make an account and edit the list.
Working on a list of local games that are unpreserved. It is surprising how many titles haven't been found yet, but I think Czechia and Slovakia is still in a very good place compared to the rest of the world. There are over 500 games archived for the ZX Spectrum alone!
What methods were used to try to recover the C64 port? I could suggest some ideas for dumping that could yield better results.
It really is somehow a very defining thing of the era of game development. Definitely a lot to dig into for further research.
It's happening!!!
