Sometimes it’s exactly who you most expect

Kevin Warsh just lost me. He argues he's going to be an independent Fed Chair, but refuses to acknowledge that Trump lost the 2020 election. If you can't state simple facts when you're in the political spotlight, you aren't independent. You're a coward.
This plane has chickenpox, oh no!
I have a PhD in […] and can tell you that academia is […] than industry. Also, look at this pretty picture of a plane.

Is mandating an increase in the amount of corn and soy we burn in vehicles good for food security? No. Is it good for nature? No. But is it at least good for the climate? Also no. Read the latest from @mikegrunwald.bsky.social 👇🏻

Dear Oklahoma & Texas legislatures: your annual operating expense is for this train is absurdly low compared to what you spend on any surface transportation programs.
Riders:
22: 63,051
23: 72,379
24: 80,371 passengers
25: 80,876 passengers
Even more would ride with more service🚆⬆️
Soaring Gas Prices Forcing More Americans To Drink Less Gas
Strangely, this is slightly less dystopian than the way I’ve seen it done in Texas (In a helicopter with an automatic rifle)
My pet theory that I have no idea how to prove:
“consumer surplus” (for non-econs, the gap between how much we value something and what we actually pay) has massively eroded and so we feel worse off than the past even though we’re still technically buying and getting things we want.
I’ve been complaining about waking up for a 6 am flight all day and they’re about to land in the ocean 😴😩

1/ New paper 🚨! (Ok, not quite new...) I'm very pleased to share that — after a long journey — my job market paper is finally out in the world.
It asks: Why do regions decline?
Manufacturing rose 15,000 jobs in March, but still has a huge deficit since Trump took office. Since January 2025, the manufacturing sector has lost 82,000 jobs.

Jobs report just came in at +178K, the best report of Trump's 2nd term.
Biden averaged +329K
Clinton averaged +242K
Obama averaged +188K in his final 7 years (following the end of the Great Recession that was in full swing when he took office)

A $15 minimum wage would raise the wages of 350,000 Oklahomans Shares of workers receiving wage increases Women = 226,400 workers (27%) Men = 131,200 workers (14%) Source: Estimates from an analysis of a $15 minimum wage in Oklahoma in 2029 by Sebastian Hickey, Economic Policy Institute
Oklahoma could raise the pay of 350,000 workers by passing a $15 minimum wage this summer. Women, who are disproportionately low-paid, are twice as likely to benefit.
I’m in the most this-meeting-could-have-been-an-email meeting of all time. Seriously. I will forever hold the world record in this event, so don’t even try to beat me. Also, it runs until 4:30 PM.
Numerous papers start with something like "The electricity market is different than any other market because it cannot be stored. Supply meets demand at every point in time."
All obsolete now.
if you thought China was going to be the big economic loser from our Iran War -- since CHina purchases so much Iranian oil -- think again.
Goldman Sachs thinks China will take half the hit to GDP growth we will, thanks in part to the country's massive investments in renewables + big oil reserves
