A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market

New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader

Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028 – and it's already here

And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol

It's borrowed from a family member, it's only done 68k miles, but it's got free supercharging 😁

Same here, very sad to hear. He was so generous with his time and expertise, he helped us a lot in the early days of @Openenergymon, I still come across the odd NanodeRF still posting to our servers

Thanks, nice work! That's very impressive

‘My heat pump triumphed during Alaska’s snowpocalypse’ Juneau's severest winter storm in decades was no match for some air-to-air heat pumps

NEW: A mega snow storm - SNOWPOCALYPSE - recently hit residents of Juneau, Alaska.

I spoke to heat pump owners there to find out how they coped. Their heat pumps did great, apparently!

HeatpumpMonitor.org - Heat Pump Performance Data An open-source initiative to share and compare heat pump performance data. Join our community of heat pump owners sharing real-world performance data.

Massive thanks to @trystanlea.bsky.social and @glynhudson.bsky.social for setting up HeatPumpMonitor.org, the excellent installers and to the people willing to share their data! Without you none of this would have been possible.

HeatPumpMonitor: Maximum Output Testing
HeatPumpMonitor: Maximum Output Testing YouTube video by OpenEnergyMonitor

There's some cold temperatures forcast for the next day or two, if you have a heatpump with @openenergymon.bsky.social monitoring and the temperature is below freezing please consider running a max output test and submit the result to HPM 🙏❄️ youtu.be/K-H2aXf15DI?...

Nissan e-NV200 Electric Campervan - YouTube https://blog.zerocarbonadventures.co.uk/2018/10/electric-campervan-diy-conversion.html

Over 7 years in our electric campervan, this map only shows the last couple of years worth of trips, Electroverse didn't exist before then! youtube.com/playlist?lis...

Good monitoring data is very useful to help optimise performance, but knowledge of the physical system is often required to be able to identify issues

Ah yes, Electroverse is my favourite charging app

Rapid charging is similarly expensive in the UK, there are still savings to be made with off-peak home charging

Superchargers are also very cheap, this one is £0.14/kWh off peak with subscription 🤯

Loving the EV rapid charging prices in France, this is Ionity in a motorway services using @octopus.energy Electroverse app without any subscription £0.29/kWh 😀

Inversely, improving insulation to reduce the heat loss makes it easier to run at a lower flow temperature. As always, it's the design insulation and commissioning which dictates the performance of the system

Really great to see this work on how good heat pump installs can be. An average seasonal performance factor (sCOP) of 3.9 beats gas on running costs, even in the UK where the price ratio between gas and electricity is so bad.

Not at all, lot's can often be done to improve efficiency post install. Incorrect or suboptimal commissioning settings is where most efficiency is lost. Making sure whether compensation is enabled and reducing the curve is a good place to start

It's been great to be part of this project with @janrosenow.bsky.social @trystanlea.bsky.social to share the results from HeatpumpMonitor.org @openenergymon.bsky.social in a peer-reviewed paper 🥳

The overall highlighted HP performance is testament to the work of excellent installers 👏 🎉

It will make very little difference, since SCOP is weighted by heat delivered

Groundbreaking air source installation in Grade II listed building tops the efficiency charts. Vitocal 150-A nears the top of the Open Energy Monitor. | Viessmann UK Groundbreaking air source installation in Grade II listed building tops the efficiency charts. Vitocal 150-A nears the top of the Open Energy Monitor.

Heat pumps can work well in all types of houses, here's a case study of a heatpump in a large 17th Century listed house, it's one of the best performing heatpumps in the country www.viessmann.co.uk/en/reference...

I think it's impossible, there's only on system which has achieved scop 5 on HPM. To achieve scop 6 would probably require a mean flow temperature sub 25C when it's it's -3C outside, including DHW heating

4 months ago 2 0 1 0

COP of 6 is easily doable on a mild day, SCOP of 6 with an ASHP is impossible
