To our trans community:
We know it’s been a long year, and that the news cycle and hateful attacks can take a toll. We feel it too.
You are not alone. You are loved, you are seen, and we will never stop showing up for you.

i get why people are fighting book bans with “don’t interfere with what i let my child read” and “i demand books for my child that reflect *our* family values too,” but it’s also about preserving some degree of autonomy *for the child*. The library should give a child an out *from* their family. 📚
It made me physically ill following updates from the Supreme Court today. Sending love to trans people, trans kids especially, and their families because… whew. Enduring this kind of hostility is an experience us cisgender will never fully understand.
Yes!
Kav asks why we wouldn't trust parents instead of the state?
A GOOD QUESTION. Remember the bigoted assholes here are *often* talking about parents rights. But apparently parents of trans kids don't have rights.
Working in a school, I see many people who do not see children as people. Children are property. They are accessories. Any child who is not white, cisgendered is seen as defective. It is heartbreaking and fills me with rage regularly.
This book was so good!
I’ve been reading some discussions on here tonight about Tennessee banning manga. Some comments are making me think people believe school libraries have the same materials at every level. Librarians know what is appropriate for their students. It’s kind of our thing!

Get a kid to teach you the art of selfies. They love to show what they know, and they are all practically professionals at it!
Most of our problems could be solved by properly funding public education.
A stuffed potato and stuffed chicken are reading Nancy Springer’s Enola Holmes books.
Just in case you needed a smile today, our library has a stuffed chicken and potato for helping students and staff calm down. The chicken has his own instagram account. This is today’s post.

Here’s a couple of sleepy dogs for all of the new people. Welcome!
Welcome! It’s nice here. 😀
Display of books in a middle school library with a sign that says Freedom to Read Week
Always one of my favorite displays! #FReadom #BannedBooksWeek
I completely understand this anxiety. Our evaluation tool is the same as the classroom teachers. It doesn’t even begin to cover much of the work we do.
❤️ you @rescuelibrarian.bsky.social

There is nothing better than librarians winning TOY, except maybe when you get to work with them everyday! 📚
That is so frustrating! Reading is reading!
You don’t need it! When we genrefied our nonfiction section, other than the 300s, very little changed. (The 300s cover pretty much everything wrong with Dewey!)
White board showing votes for a lifetime supply of pizza versus a lifetime supply of tacos.
This has been the most controversial topic of discussion. I was not prepared. Thanks @kelseybogan.bsky.social for the idea! The kids, staff, and visitors love it!
The laminator is my nemesis!
I taught middle school and not high school, but I had a lot of success when I could find texts that fascinated the kids. For example, we read about super crocs, great white sharks, athlete pay, etc. Those led us into short inquiries and authentic activities.
Welcome @rescuelibrarian.bsky.social to the new place! She’s my library partner-in-crime and I love her dearly!
The constant trolling and contrariness for the sake of being contrary that has taken over the other place.
Not lame at all! Those books were great!
Teachers, librarians, educators, parents, & readers! It’s #giveaway time! I need to find these 20 middle-grade graphic novels a new home!
