He sounds as if he is already very familiar with the ever popular throat punch self-defense technique.

This is a feature, not a bug of the current US media landscape. It’s been in progress since the GOP deified a leader with dementia.

It’s public service for personal gain. He’s fine doing the job as long as he can get as rich or richer than his pedo investments allow.

Dems have a long history of opposing genocide. Go. Run to a party that thinks Nazis are “very fine people.” Schmuck

There's no prediction market at Kalshi yet for how many days before Kash withdraws his suit. I think 'within 100 days' is a safe guess. First request for discovery and it's over.

How did that go for everyone?

I may be mistaken but I believe that New Jersey invented 'surge pricing' several decades ago.

The pendulum swings away from authoritarians and violence.

Should I be concerned about copyright? I think by providing 'selections' from the recording and and adding the writing the two together make Fair Use a reasonable expectation. I'm not so sure about the entire performance, or any of the performance sans the 'critique'. Thoughts?

Wonderfully researched, written, and produced news - exactly what we have come to expect from @anneapplebaum.bsky.social

There are far too many MAGA-aligned executives in the med tech sector who are literally funding their own doom. No investment means no innovation means no profits.

just stupid

John Lee Hooker: Boom Boom A rare live recording of an intimate show featuring the legendary Coast to Coast Blues Band

open.substack.com/pub/aggrovox...

First-ever listen!

I recorded John Lee Hooker in 1980 at Casa de la Raza in Santa Barbara. 300+ people packed the community center to hear Hooker and the Coast To Coast Blues Band led by Hooker's longtime collaborator Melvyn "Deacon" Jones on Hammond B3.

The worst brand execution in recent memory. A decent concept destroyed by the simplest thing to manage: media distribution. Someday we will learn why PIF invested billions in hard infrastructure (players, the touring circus, etc.) but nothing in a half-assed media distribution strategy. stupid

If you want to watch the full playbook look up "Citizen McCaw" - a documentary about a billionaire who buys a small town newspaper to keep her wealthy friends out of the news.

Wendy McCaw received the largest divorce settlement in US history, and then went nuclear.

Epic! He
Headlined the LBBF the day after my recording!

Not every engineer took the time to make a separate ‘record’ mix, but the Hooker show was a little different as we waited for band members to arrive from LA. And some shows are audience mic’d. - super intimate snd sometimes we are listening to the monitor mix. I like them all! Thanks for listening!

I don't know why it sounds really good on a phone! LOL

It sounds really, really good with headphones. The engineer mixed JLH and his guitar on the left and weighted the band on the right.

It reminds me of making demo cassette tapes and running out to the car to see if the mix held up.

It's all real time. It would be great if there were an AI that would EQ the tapes for me after digitization. That process takes forever!

I've literally kept all of my old video cameras so that if I do ever plan to digitize, I'll at least have the relevant tech - even if it needs repair. Obsolescence is a bitch...

AH yes - the D6M. I remember it well!

(Said in the voice of Sean Connery correctly identifying the bottling year of the Sherry he is offered in M's office, and then also correctly identifying the vintage of the original grape harvest.)

I have dozens - many board tapes. I'm sure that other recordings of the shows exist, but I think these should be added to the archive.

For the Casa de la Raza show that I recorded, several members of the band were seriously late - like hours late. The show starts with JLH stomping out a tune and the band just sort of catches up. It was, as I said in the article that accompanies the recording (let me know if you liked it!), peak JLH

That will be news to ASCAP/BMI, lol.

I recorded him a couple of times, but I've only digitized the one show at Casa de la Raza so far.
My poor Sony TCD5 (the machine I recorded all the shows with) gave up the ghost after less than a dozen tapes, so now I need to source a desktop replacement with manual azimuth adjust. Ah, obsolescence

Curious if you listened to the John Lee Hooker clip, and if so what you thought of the quality?
