I mean, yes? Utterly, indisputably yes? The charity/corporate "diversity partnership" model that emerged in the 2010s was an absolute fucking disaster for everyone who couldn't get their feet under the table at some org or another. Pure recuperation by the trans middle class.

Stonewall have been the single greatest asset to the GCs since the beginning. They didn't need their active support, and they're not gonna accept it now, but Stonewall controlled enough of the money and enough of the discourse to stop us going for the jugular when the GCs were weak.

It's weird I only remember pretty negative press. Reviews were all bleh and Peter Jackson sounded like he was hating every second of it. I think he joined at the last minute after Del Toro dropped out and been told it had to be out asap and had to be a trilogy. depressing

I genuinely did not realise anyone thought of those films as 'definitive', my impression was everyone understood them as a cynical cash grab, available to be enjoyable on a generic actiony level only. It is a real shame not to have an adaptation that 'gets' it though, there's such potential

400 dead so far, over 1000 injured, dozens and dozens missing. This is one hour into the massacre. I have no idea what the death toll will be in the end. Also, they have announced “another wave” of attacks coming

Bridge and his fellow agitators had returned to Oxford in defiance of Monday’s formal legal notice issued by Oxfordshire County Council requiring them to stop. Footage from the group’s Facebook livestream shows the local resident quietly slipping under the van while Bridge was distracted.

National Raise the Colours founder Ryan Bridge was arrested last night on Abingdon Road for public order offences. Bridge himself had called the police when an Oxford resident lay under his cherry-picker van. Mobile phone footage from local residents shows Bridge shouting “I’ve been arrested!”.

man, remember how all this started with JK Rowling's publicist saying she had a "senior moment" when she liked a transphobic tweet

because at the time, that was not a socially acceptable thing to do

But they have almost twice as many arriving on foot than on bike, seems unlikely that many people are walking in from outside the city (however it's defined)

Eurobridges Spijkenisse - Wikipedia

I can't get exercised by what is on bank notes but this is very amusing. Apparently euros feature fictional bridges so they don't offend anyone (and they do, we checked!). So a Dutch town built the bridges that are on the notes and now all euros feature that town. 😂

Anti-trans extremists, Baroness Falkner (former EHRC chair) and Baroness Davies, are now using the influence granted to them by the warmongering zealot Tony Blair and the bumbling Kemi Badenoch - to push policies that will strip cisgender women and girls of their bodily autonomy

Utterly ghoulish

recently a lawyer friend told me with disgust her boss actually suggested she use Claude to write a legal brief. but the legal system, nominally concerned with equality, degenerated into a bureaucratic slush pile of unread obligatory paperwork -- how long ago, exactly? anyone writing about this?

it's less that AI can produce work of quality than that it is testing the care threshold of various major institutions that have been systematically lowering theirs for decades. for instance obviously college students can ChatGPT an essay they give the adjunct teaching 400 students across 3 colleges

Wow I hadn't thought of that essay in years. What a perfect contrast to that Slate article re expectations of what romance is(/does) for both authors and readers

thinking about the vital 1992 essay "The Androgynous Reader" by romance writer Laura Kinsale which suggests a growing inability of female readers to relate with male heroins (often through third-person narration) would indicate rising antifeminist gender conservatism. or whatever im just riffing

I've made 'carbonara' with veg replacing part (or even all) of the pasta if that's of interest. Or, to adjust the quiche, souffle it www.howsweeteats.com/2025/04/broc... (haven't tried this specific recipe but have done the general idea)

Wow! I just made some ramen eggs, assume that's no good for egg dislikers but I personally love having them in the fridge as a snack/lunch side. Egg curry is similarly a staple for me, and shakshuka. To better disguise the eggs, maybe frittata/spanish omelette? Quiche? Carbonara?

Like this narrative that the campaigns for equal marriage were a friendly public conversation where everybody respected each other is wild as fuck. It was only about ten years ago and you guys kept implying we wanted to fuck dogs.
