A NanoBeast Z80 computer driving a 14 segment LCD display with a rather shiny backlight.

I've just spent four hours tracking down a software bug...

...that turned out to be a dry solder joint.

On the one hand, I'm quite annoyed. On the other hand I'm very happy - it works!!! It's taken a while to get here, but I've got a properly working LCD screen. (Spot the bodges!)

What was in your tape box? Alphabetically sorted with handwritten labels? One massive tangled pile? Chronologically ordered by the date you recorded over the previous thing? There were no wrong answers, but some of you are lying.

No lies - the first (and only) tape I got with my ZX Spectrum was a bunch of copied games with an orange label and the game names written in black pen. I remember it clearly - I still remember some of the games on it as well - I need to recreate it at some point :-)

But yeah, motivation / time / effort / mental (or general) health are always a thing when doing stuff like this. I have so many half-finished projects (ADHD brain mainly) so fully understand :-)

I'd pick something simple like printing strings (just loops / reads and writes) and go from there, and work my up to more complex stuff.

You can even look at the asm the C comes up with to see where it's being wasteful.

Maybe take it as an opportunity to learn 6502 asm? I dunno man, the game looks good and my Z80 asm skills were crap until I just jumped in and learnt it. There's so much info and free code / optimisation routines online for these old chips - I bet you'd be up to speed with no time.
