His afterword highlights the interdependencies and German car makers which could merit a book on itself.
Bright red graphic with bold yellow text reading “Global Tech Wars: China’s Race to Dominate,” featuring circuit-like line illustrations and an FT logo in the corner.
10. Global tech wars -China’s race to dominate by James Klynge - impressive how Chinese policy has focused on its strengths. It reveals aggressive strategies eg by Huawei. Europe is considered to be out of the race (except for ASML) just a market for tech like facial recognition in Serbia. #booksky
Book cover of Orbital shows Earth and a number of other watercoloured blobs to portray space.
8. The novel Orbital by Samantha Harvey is such a skillful book, gave a beautiful glimpse of the lives and thoughts of astronauts. Very short and intense but beautiful prose #booksky
The book cover for Careless People: A Cautionary Tale of Power, Greed, and Lost Idealism (or A Story of Where I Used to Work) by Sarah Wynn-Williams features the legs of a woman
7. Careless people by Sarah Wynn Williams - a must read. Taking down info on Navalny protests, forcing Hong Kong users to give all data to CCP, the reckless behaviour in Myanmar.
I’m not a fan of some of the personal attacks but the business decisions are shocking. #booksky
The Lacuna book cover has a young man diving off a cliff and all you see is the sly and clouds.
The lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver is set partially in Mexico about a fictional man woven into the lives of a colourful Frida Kahlo and serious Trotsky.
Fantastic witty writing, a bit long but would still recommend it as it gives great historical insights e.g. US anti-communism after WWII. #booksky
Book cover showing cutlery with one of the knives bloodied
5 seven reasons to murder your dinner guests by K.J. Whittle is an entertaining crime novel. Quick read about ominous human behaviour and the 7 deadly sins
Delicious looking cinnamon bon with a little Estonian flag
My boss is better than your boss
Happy Independence Day, Estonia!
The book cover for Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five shows 3 hands and one of those close up with an eye. It’s a reference to the Tralfamadorian aliens, who are described as shaped like toilet plungers with a hand at the top and an eye in the palm
Slaughterhouse five by Kurt Vonnegut. Really enjoyed reading this despite it being a mind f*ck and pretty bleak. As in real life, the light funny parts can get you through the darkness. But you know “and so it goes” #booksky
White Book cover of Flesh with large letters portraying inside a town
Flesh by David Szalay I loved it. The absurd dialogue was irritating at first but then you understand the main character, Istvan. There is love portrayed but a lot of it seems selfish, making a sad but compelling read. Overall maybe not so believable but still I highly recommend it. #booksky
This poll really shows how different security perceptions in the EU can be - where defence is the lowest priority in Ireland, with the threat from Russia still (marginally) below Israel/Gaza:
Green book cover with the title The Big FiVe for Life is large font
The big five for life by John Strelecky is a self help book on leadership but can bring meaning for anyone who wants to make a postive impact in their life including at work #booksky

Illustration of a glowing blue padlock at the center of a digital circuit network, symbolising cybersecurity and data protection in Europe, with the EU flag in the corner and the text “Cyber-Safe Europe” at the bottom.
Cyber and hybrid attacks hit Europe every day.
We are proposing a new Cybersecurity Package to keep hospitals, energy infrastructure, banks, transport and businesses safe from state hackers and cyber-attacks.
A poster that reads: you can’t spell hatred without red hat accompanied by a drawing of a red hat
Everything is awful but the creativity behind some of these handmade posters gives me a glimmer of hope in humanity.
Book cover Depicts Alfred Rosenberg and Baruch Spinoza overlapping
1. The Spinoza Problem by Irvin Yalom creates an exciting fiction out of two real life personalities making a link between the Dutch philosopher and a Nazi propagandist. Very enjoyable for all interested in moral philosophy, psychology and historical fiction #booksky

Books for 2026 lined up on a bookshelf, showing the book cover of ‘Seven reasons to murder your dinner guests’ by K J Whittle, followed by ‘Flesh’ by David Szalay, ‘Gilded Rage’ by Jacob Silverman, ‘The Lacuna’ by Barbara Kingsolver, ‘Orbital’ by Samatha Harvey and ‘Bloedzang’ by Caro Van Thuyne
In 2026, my goal is to finish 26 books and maybe then I increase it by 1 per year to keep the alignment.
I’ll track it better as I buy books but mainly borrow them, some are gifted and then I lend many out, I also listen to audiobooks regularly and have two kindles on the go. Complicated! #booksky
This was the last book I read in 2025 and counting my #booksky book reviews, this was my 24th book (my annual goal has been 25 for the last few years). I do have a nagging feeling that I have forgotten a book.
The audiobook cover for Claire Adam's novel Golden Child features a stark, dramatic image of a person holding a flashlight beam in a dark, lush green jungle or bush setting
Golden Child by Claire Adam, amazing book for a discussion on family loyalty, values and parents’ aspirations. A thrilling quick read that evokes sadness and anger, makes you really get a feel for Trinidad in the 1980’s. #booksky
Book cover of the Dutch edition “Elke dag mild ouderschap” showing a drawing of a mother, father and three children playing.
Mild parenting every day by @ninamouton.bsky.social is a self-help book. Personally it remains hard to break the cycle of reward and punishment but gives some useful advice and exercises on how to parent gently but with clear boundaries #booksky
