I guess the bottom line is I still love EarthBound and I still love that community and cherish a lot of what I learned being there. I wouldn't have gotten into music-making or romhacking without that community or gained confidence in making friends online. I shouldn't have closed doors.

I realize now I was being pretty naive and any of the old-heads that remember me probably still like me, or some version of me from that time, anyway. I really should work harder at rebuilding and maintaining bridges. I'm far enough removed that I remember the good times more than one toxic friend.

Obviously I'm no saint and I wasn't exactly the most socially smart kid in the world and maybe some aspects of that falling out could have been handled better, but really I mostly regret letting it make me doubt myself to that extent. My self-esteem at the time said nobody'd care if I stepped away.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about connections I've sort of lost over time, and it makes me realize how in my old days on starmen I gave a lot more power to a toxic friendship than it rightfully deserved and it kind of made me disconnect needlessly from a community that, to my eyes, liked me.

There are still people in this world that care about things like swearing, and I find it so fascinating as someone who honestly curses like every 5 sentences. I just watched a YouTuber stumble over the word "ass" and all I can think of is "come on, that one was in Shrek"!

That's legit really cool, even more excited to tune in knowing I'd actually know the host lol

If I did they'd probably be smaller scale and less on a schedule, I'll give some thought to it and see how I feel; they'd probably be more low-key/chill on account of less people to bounce jokes off

I've thought about doing solo streams every once in a while of games I'm more personally interested in (rather than always the whole roommate shebang) on like Sundays or Mondays or something but idk if I really have the entertainment chops that an audience would care, idk

people freaking out about a server outage must not have played MMOs, all I can think of is how they would not survive a weekly Thursday morning server maintenance or whatever

yeah breakups hurt, but have you ever experienced the tragedy of being dogshit at a video game character that you really like

I like seeing people who obsess over characters like that because it's like, there's always some deeply personal reasoning for doing so or it's like the character you picked in games as a child or something, like there is always something very personal about it

I kinda was thinking about how interesting people's "comfort characters" are, like everyone kinda has a different big favorite and it's sometimes even like a villain or a character so minor they're in like one game or a character with no dialogue that only appears in sports spinoffs. It's cool.

There's a weird dichotomy where a voice acting style switch Japanese fans completely expected or even looked forward to completely blindsided a lot of English-speaking fans and I do wonder if Japanese fans know there is weird drama over it on the English side haha

Genuinely I thought about this article a lot when FF7 Rebirth came out because of how English fans reacted to Red XIII (he does a pretty jarring pronoun swap in Japanese and they actually localize it through the voice acting, so now every reddit thread about him devolves into voice acting arguments)

Yeah I think the second act of the game is really what puts Kefka over. He genuinely wins, that was such a shock when I first played!

I like both translations for different reasons
I to this day think about "little money" as it slowly crawls across the screen (but I'll say the remake is definitely the best way to experience the game in the modern day)

I love when people are describing an old 3D game as "gritty and gloomy" and what they really mean is it's got shit lighting and it's in 240p

To be honest the first time I played I just thought it was meant to be like an engine starting or something. I didn't think anything of it.

I do kinda wonder if the bsky devs ever give serious thought that their whole platform is based around people who left for greener pastures meaning they have a userbase that will jump ship immediately if it stops being the best option
