The second point is especially important because the powers that be keep dropping the maximum certificate lifetime. It’s not easy or fun to reissue certs every 47 days (that’s coming in 2029!)

Internet-facing services that I run are (finally?) switching to free Let’s Encrypt X.509 certificates for SSL/TLS (think: the “s” in “https.” Why?
* These certificates are free and are just as good as paid ones.
* They work with free “ACME” integration to automatically renew them.
For the first time in over 25 years, I am not running a sendmail server.
My last fundraiser and feat of derring do for February is the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Polar Plunge!
It is happening this Saturday, 2/28.

I just realized that the 1927 Fritz Lang film “Metropolis” was set in 1926. Compare and contrast:
* Technological developments
* Separation of rich people from the worker class

Autocorrect suggests replacing the word “understand” with one of “understns,” “underpants,” or “underarms.”
Things I will never understand:
1. The enshittification of autocorrect.
This is based on observation, not pure conjecture. And I don’t think it’s a new way of looking at things. I just wish more people would realize that they are doing these things and that their judgements are fallible.

Along with this, some people rely way too much on their own sense of what is right and wrong to judge other people and to try to restrict their behavior.

Generalization and categorization are useful tools. But they are just tools. They do not represent absolute truth in a world of nuance and imperfection.
2/4
I think many people rely too much on generalization and categorization. They like to put labels on things (and people) then pretend that the labels are correct in some absolute sense.

4. Knowledge and Truth
a. Values knowledge.
b. Values truth.

3. Tolerance
a. Tolerates different opinions.
b. Tolerates different ways of life.

2. Social Context
a. Has in mind the best interests of everyone.
b. Gives people the benefit of the doubt.

1. Generalization
a. Avoids sweeping generalizations about people.
b. Avoids identifying people by their political affiliation.

I want to be known as someone who does all of the following in my interactions with my fellow humans. How about you?
To the extent that I haven't done these things, I will endeavor to do so now and in the future.

10-4 good buddy, what’s your 10-20?

But you’re not helping. Why is that?
You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can’t, not without your help.
You’re in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise. It’s crawling toward you.
Fourth, why is it that some people immediately jumped to the conclusion that the shooter of Charlie Kirk must have been from the left, when statistics suggested it wouldn’t be because those shooters are almost always far right?
Third, why is it that our government reacts more Intensely when a conservative personality speaker is killed than when a member of Congress (a Democrat) is killed?
Second, who celebrates when our military blows up a vessel that is merely suspected of carrying drugs, killing everyone aboard?
First, there’s more to the US population than “left” and “right” and even within those groups there is a diversity of opinions. I see most “left” leaning posts saying things like “no one deserves to be shot.”
Do you believe it’s true that the left celebrates death (referring to Charlie Kirk) while the right does not? I’ve read this claim on posts by one of my Facebook contacts. I don’t believe this is a correct statement at all. It’s just more divisive the-other-side-is-bad nonsense.

This year there were 22 donations totaling $936. Everything’s up from last year (including my mileage) when there were 16 donations totaling $711.
Thanks again for helping me support a very worthy cause!
This year’s Bike 300 Miles in August for the American Cancer Society has come to a close. I really appreciate everyone who donated. I don’t see a dime of that but I did receive this spiffy medal.
