⚠️ An uncomfortable finding from our lab that I want to state carefully.
BCI trials are enrolling participants without routine genetic screening for neurodegeneration risk. We have mouse data that makes this worth examining systematically. 🧡

I always thought that mice couldn't over groom their own backs in a pattern like this, and that instead it was due to their cagemates eg barbering?

We apologize for the delay but our next profile is here! Dr. Ann Kennedy (@antihebbiann.bsky.social) combines theory & biological data to study how internal states shape social behavior by reconfiguring neural circuit dynamics.

Cosyne 2026 - Cosyne Tutorial: Comparative Analysis of Neural Population Codes YouTube video by Cosyne Talks

Cosyne invited me to give a long tutorial (4 hours!) on methods to quantify differences high-d neural recordings across animals, brain regions, deep neural nets, etc.

The recording is up on youtube. I hope it inspires more research on this fundamental topic!

We noticed something interesting (and frustrating) this winter because we had a number of cold spells here in Florida - when humidity drops, the food in our cages loses moisture and therefore weight, artificially increasing our food consumption measures. Curious if anyone else has noticed this?

The PM calling Grace Tame, a woman fighting for the safety of children, β€œdifficult” is completely unwarranted.Β

Labelling women as difficult won’t silence us. It won’t stop us speaking truth to power.Β

Next time try β€œunbreakable” or β€œwarrior” or β€œfierce”, Prime Minister.

We are a rich enough country to be funding 37% of all basic research proposals, not just considering "the best" 37% and then maybe only funding 12% in the end.
