Is anyone else working on this issue? If so, how are you approaching it?

We have approximately 23,500 PDFs in our repo that need work and I can’t see a scenario where each page of each PDF is manually remediated. A colleague did a time study and it would him many years to complete the work if this was his only task.

The manual markup of each page of a PDF isn’t something that I’ve ever had time to do. However, it seems that’s the direction my institution is headed, at least for the time being.

Although I’ve done some accessibility work, I’m not leading our institutions efforts on compliance. I’m involved only because I manage our digitization processes. Most of my accessibility work has been centered around using automation tools in Acrobat and ABBYY.

I’m sure that most of us are aware of the ADA Title II compliance date of April 24, 2026 for web content. Have other archival institutions started implementing WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility compliance for their online materials? #archives
