Dear Rubyists: Shopify Isnโ€™t Your Enemy Iโ€™ve been meaning to write a post about my perspective on Open Source and corporate entities. I already got the rough outline of it; however, Iโ€™m suffering from writerโ€™s block, but more importantly, t...

I tried to explain why I don't believe the recent accusations toward my former teammates, as well as how the Ruby and Rails Infra team at Shopify operates and why it can be trusted.

Hey, Simon! Thank you!
1. What features are you thinking are missing?
2. Can you give me an example of "adding hash keys to types" in traditional Sorbet sigs?

It actually is very important that you do things that you take pleasure in, regularly. That is part of how you survive the things that feel like they are going to destroy you.

The image features a promotional graphic for StoryGraph titled "New Year, New Reading Journey." It displays a hand-drawn illustration of a small character circling the Story Graph logo on a calendar page, with "2025" written in the top right corner. The character stands on a pushpin platform, using a red marker for circling. The style is playful and sketch-like. The background is simple, adorned with scattered stars and paper airplane drawings, adding to the whimsical atmosphere. The text on the image states, "We've got fun updates coming all January! Give us the month to keep you around. Don't love us by Jan 31st? Delete your data in just 3 clicks."

It's ball-shaped on one side and pointy on the other to help release tight muscles. I don't think it technically counts as a "ball" but the marketing says "massage ball" so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

But if you just mean "maintain long term fitness" then yeah, absolutely. Your body remembers the training you've done, and even if you deprioritize running for a bit, getting started again will be easier than it's ever been.

I think it depends what you mean by "maintain." If you mean "maintain the ability to run 6 miles at any speed," then yeah probably! Or "maintain the ability to run a 5k as fast as I possibly can" then probably not.

So, I did a talk at #RubyConf. A keynote, an incredible honor. But before I did it, I updated my slides with my BlueSky (and Mastodon) handles. When I came off stage, I saw this, and itโ€™s been literal years since Iโ€™ve seen this on socials after a talk. Iโ€™m so glad we all picked a place finally.
