Midst of the labs Genetics publish-athon from @ccaseys.bsky.social. Infecting a population on host genotypes spread across 8 dicots we could show that a generalist pathogen has both generalist and specialist genes url:academic.oup.com/genetics/article/doi/10....

Naturally occurring variation in gene-associated transposable elements impacts gene expression and phenotypic diversity in woodland strawberry Transposable elements (TEs) constitute a major portion of plant genomes and play key roles in shaping genome architecture, regulating gene expression, and driving genome evolution. In this study, we g...

Does the smell and flavor of strawberries depend on variations in gene-associated transposons? It seems so! Check out our new preprint! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Natural selection drives emergent genetic homogeneity in a century-scale experiment with barley Direct observation is central to our understanding of adaptation, but evolution is rarely documented in a large, multicellular organism for more than a few generations. In this study, we observed evol...

Almost 100 years of a barley common garden experiment involving reciprocal crossing showed a rapid decrease in genetic diversity with around 60% of progeny deriving from a single parent after 50 generations. @evogen.bsky.social Paper: doi.org/10.1126/science.adl0038 (24/34)

Sodium azide mutagenesis induces a unique pattern of mutations bioRxiv - the preprint server for biology, operated by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a research and educational institution

We've found that the common chemical mutagen sodium azide produces a very specific pattern of mutations in a specific nucleotide context. The 2 nucleotide context limits the types of amino acid changes observed.

We also find small indels are more abundant in treated lines.
