text reading "The average New Zealand woman* loses $25.36 per week... ...just because this Govt. has not acted on pay gap reporting." small text reading "*earning the median wage" There is a graphic of a person with wavy hair holding a tax invoice for prime minister christopher luxon with the total of 7.8 billion, with overdue stamped on it.
text reading "It's this simple: If the Government made gender pay gap reporting compulsory for large businesses, the gender pay gap would shrink by 20–40 percent.* That's an extra $25.36 per week for women earning the median wage; an extra $58.40 for wahine Māori and $76.40 for Pacific women." small text reading "*based on international evidence."
text reading "What can we do to help close the pay gap? It only takes a minute. Visit the STILL Minding the Gap web site now to invoice the Prime Minister and let him know that closing the gender pay gap is STILL a priority for Kiwis: stillmindingthegap.nz"
If the Government enacted pay gap reporting, women in New Zealand who earn the median wage would get an 'extra' (or rather, not miss out on...) $25.36 per week. For wahine Māori it's $58.40 and $76.40 for Pacific women.
It's that simple. Let Luxon know it's OVERDUE: www.stillmindingthegap.nz
You are just looking at the world upside down. It's summer here.
Across America and the world, people are realizing it’s not possible to appease America’s dictator.
The only way to deal with him is to stand up to him — and the only way to stand up to him is by joining together against him.
It's time for a massive general strike across the country.
Fucking do something, @repbonamici.bsky.social
What he was thinking was obviously "Denmark has a nice piece of ice."
I think of this song often
every single successful general strike in US history has had union backing through the local AFL-CIO
this is the first time it’s been called for since the 1940s
I know that some here will disagree, but when then Nobel committee gave Obama a peace prize, it cheapened the honor. Obama, like Machado, had done nothing to warrent such an accolade.
All he did was win an election after W was president. Why on earth would that deserve a peace prize?

I don't think France would do anything unless and until all of Europe is ready to act. I can't imagine a centrist (read center rightist) like Macron would be keen. The Spanish government (likely with Denmark) will be the force pushing the rest of the continent into action, if anything.
These are prerequisite conditions for a war of territorial expansion.
The US is engineering a depression and working overtime to quash internal dissent. Renee Good won't be the last as the Republican party is prepared to commit atrocities to silence criticism, even if that means turning the concentration camps already in place into death camps.
This is all crazy, but crazy times may require crazy thinking.
This is assuming that the US military hasn't already invaded both of these countries.
If the US were to take Mexico and Central America down to Panama, as they seem keen to do, it means an amphibious invasion akin to D- day would be necessary.
Canada would need to be bolstered to hold two fronts (Alaska and the lower 48) though might be best to pursue the same strategy as the USSR did in WWII, while the main invasion force would need to muster in Mexico and proceed overland, maybe across the border in the western part of New Mexico.
China is the only country that has the potential industrial capability to ramp up enough might to actually fight a conventional war in the USA. It would certainly have to be a multilateral war including both Mex and Can, all of Europe and likely India. That would require a massive realignment.
I believe this is Greenland's new battle flag
I invite all Americans to join Minnesota in a day of unity tomorrow.
How does this all end?
If nobody is going to hold Trump accountable for breaking the law and brazenly overthrowing the leader of Venezuela, how and when will he be held accountable?
This has the makings of the beginning of WWIII.
Green shoots, my foot.
Does anyone know if a protest is being organised in Auckland against the US invasion of Venezuela? #nzpol
I think my IQ just went down from reading that.
I checked and nope.
I wish this was available in Nelson.
So, if New Zealand needs more money to fund its health and education systems, infrastructure, and so on, creating a strongly progressive tax system, where all income is subject to income tax, would not only work, it would cause an economic boom and supply heaps of jobs at higher wages.

The broadly increased income also resulted in a larger tax take, which allowed the government to invest in large scale projects such as interstate highways, medicare for those over 65, and going to the moon.
Due, in large part to strongly progressive taxation, income was redistributed from the rich to the rest of society, either by the choice of business owners to take less income or through direct taxation.
While it certainly wasn't a perfect time for many (women, minorities, lgbtq), it is commonly accepted that from an economic standpoint, this was the hayday of growth and opportunity for the vast majority of Americans which lasted a couple decades until neo-liberalism took hold.
In 1952 in the USA, the income tax rates on income earned in excess of $400,000 (about $4.9m USD or about $8.4 NZD today) was 92%.
This caused massive reinvestment into the working class, generational upward mobility, and unparalleled prosperity for broad swaths of society.
