A watchful D.C. resident sent me a photo of something we haven’t seen in years; water flowing down the cascading fountain at Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park. NPS started work on the long-dry fountain late last year, as part of a broader project to refurbish the park.

Very DC message just in from the listserv: "Honeybee swarm season has begun...If I am able to rescue the swarm, I will give the bees a new home at the Swiss Embassy where they will be granted asylum"

With Tax Day coming up, here's our reminder that TurboTax owner Intuit spent two decades fighting to prevent Americans from filing their taxes online for free.

Once again, this site has a significant problem with people who cannot distinguish between "here is what the law is"/"here is what happened" and "I endorse that law/what happened."
Parliamentary procedure is- much of the time- not just ‘archaic tradition’ but actually quite logical
(I said *much* not all of the time)
Happy 50th, @wmata.com 🥳
One of my fav pieces on the system from over the years, @ggwash.org's station architecture type classification. I'm a waffle and Gull I fan.
1/2 This memo identifies absolutely no source of legal authority for paying TSA. It does not point to an appropriation that is available for this purpose, nor does it point to any legal authority to transfer some other appropriation to TSA. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...
Photo at the Tidal basin in D.C. looking at Thomas Jefferson Memorial taken March 27, 2026. In the foreground you can see the famous D.C. cherry blossoms at peak bloom.
🌸 The cherry blossoms are in peak bloom according to the National Park Service. Be sure to check the forecast at weather.gov if you are headed out to the National Mall this weekend to experience these beautiful blooms. 🌸

good morning. if you are driving a two ton automobile you must yield to the 100-200 pound human in the crosswalk with no built in airbags. failure to do so will result in you literally killing them.
This is super interesting — and helps also answer my question about why ICBM missile control bunkers were always this sea foam green:
it's nice that metro 50 now means something other than 'time between red line trains during safetrack'
1/ It's not just that unilaterally paying TSA agents is illegal.
It's that Trump has now repeatedly undermined the core of the congressional power of the purse. He's not spending money that has been appropriated by law (impoundments) and he's spending money that has not been appropriated.
We’ll have to hear more about what specific authority Trump is using to pay the TSA, but this action is likely illegal.
But imagine being a civil servant in a different part of DHS who also hasn’t been paid this whole time, seeing Congress and Trump only talk about TSA. I’d be pretty bummed!

It was a great show! One of my favorites, and staged at the perfect time.
Godot will be here any minute with my joke for this thread

Mayor Bowser Presents: The Undoing of Mayor Bowser's Achievements
I bet Bowser thinks this is smart strategy to protect her stadium. But even if we don't have a full-on oil crisis, sticker shock is baked into that now too.

high schoolers should have to take a class on how to read city/county/state budgets.
"how can the x municipality have a shortage in the road fund!! we're spending 9000000 million dollars on trees [grant obligations]!!!! just move the restricted tree dollars to fund road maintenance!"
i know everyone is having fun with kagi translate but i highly recommend paying for their search engine. it’s like 2006 google without any ads or tracking.
as a reminder, this listserv exists to be used solely for the purpose of new raptor identification, which is why it is called the add hawk committee
Oh no! From someone who is more productive with a routine and also in an office a few days a week, I feel for you.
I see some R folks posted their pi day pies. Unless it is a CRANberry pie, I am not interested.
Cancel the MLB season and give me six months of this.
Team USA is only invited if it can remove the stick from its ass and remember the joy of this children’s game.
Many Washington Post readers have been notified via email that their subscription rates are set to increase. Nestled at the bottom of these emails, you’ll find an asterisk and the following: “This price was set by an algorithm using your personal data.”
This entire conversation reminds me of why I loved and hated Montana weather growing up. It’s chaos.
