[on the latest Ezra Klein show]
Kimberly: I don't know if you've bought a car lately...
Ezra: I live in NYC. It is the best part of living in NYC that I did not have to buy a car lately.
Kimberly: Actually I live in Los Angeles and I don't have a car here, which is funny.
Ezra: God bless you.

I can't recommend @leedrutman.bsky.social's op ed from today highly enough. Seriously worth a read

Greg Spotts takes a selfie in front of me and some other bike enthusiasts outdoors at Pacific Inn pub in Fremont. It's sunny out, and fish & chips and beers are visible on a black metal table.
Here's another one!
I'm so thankful for what @spottnik.bsky.social and SDOT have accomplished in the past few years. As someone who bikes and walks, the city feels like a completely different place. My mom bikes around with me when she visits, she did not used to.
Greg, I wish you the best with whatever comes next!!
never meet your heros
It was a *Bogota mayor* who said, an advanced city isn't when even the poor use cars it's when even the rich use public transit.
Whoa where in the city is this?? Bogotá is incredible
link the op ed when it runs!
My impression is that @spottnik.bsky.social is extremely good at getting things through planning and actually built, and tries hard to avoid the "seattle process"
what would the project(s) be?
I'm teaching a new intro programming class at UW this winter, and for a project I want my students to implement trees and use them for something genetics themed. Could anyone suggest a simple-ish application? Maybe building a covid lineage from (toy) RNA sequences?
Maybe there's a good reason for this, but it's weird that the x axis is median age and the y axis is average age
If you’re frustrated this Council all but killed outdoor dining, failed to lift parking mandates citywide, and is considering ebike licensing, allow me to send you a Save the Date:

Democratic Primary Elections
I agree with this! Did you listen to the Ezra Klein interview on tolerance of disorder?
"low propensity voters are increasingly conservative"
say more about this. because I know this realignment is happening at a national level, but thought that in seattle, general election voters (lower propensity) still skew left of primary voters (high propensity)?
👀
was that something you posted on twitter?
worlds colliding 😍
seattle does a big annual commuting survey and it's actually shocking how much the wfh shift has stuck around, even now
do you have the same thing but as a percentage of all travel, or at least compared with cars? wfh patterns are pretty confounding so I'm curious if this recovery is even better than it looks
I've seen the little sketch graphics about this, but to see it in a real-life picture is kind of wild
I wonder if the training were longer, would more people in the US decide it's not worth it to start driving in the first place? It could make perfect sense, unfortunately...
Noooo 😰
This is so good
feels like a "where am I?" opportunity... is this on the road down to golden gardens?
absolutely
sewer work! I've been wondering what's going on there for so long
For real though I would love to hear an interview of Randall Munroe on TWOC
omg. yeah this is what I was looking for
Road sign against a blue sky. The sign reads, "YOU'RE IN A BOX ON WHEELS HURTLING ALONG SEVERAL TIMES FASTER THAN EVOLUTION COULD POSSIBLY HAVE PREPARED YOU TO GO" "NEXT 5 MILES"
A man stands in front of a white car. His dialogue reads, "TIME TO ACCELERATE THIS GIANT MACHINE UP TO TERRIFYING SPEEDS AND STEER IT USING MY HANDS, WHICH I AM ALLOWED TO DO BECAUSE I TOOK A 20-MINUTE TEST IN HIGH SCHOOL!" Text at the bottom reads, "DRIVING FREAKS ME OUT."
Randall Munroe... welcome to the The War on Cars? @xkcd.com @thewaroncars.bsky.social
These are both so good... Does anyone know of others?
