I’m surprised as anyone that I logged my first Ruddy Duck in the Mojave desert when I live in a state/city known for their lakes. 🪶 #itsabird

A grey desert chicken with fancy black plume coming from its head. It looks like a land angler fish only far more attractive and less horror story. It strides alongside a chain link fence. Its gait looks like a little wobbly top.
Back from the desert and didn’t leave empty birded. Though this trip had other priorities it was nice to get out and find some birds far outside the range I’m normally in. My Bird of the Day today was a highlight for me the Gambel’s Quail. How could you not love this ridiculous bird. #itsabird 🪶

Today my Bird of the Day is the Spotted Towhee. This one found in Utah was very cooperative as we passed it on the trail. 🪶 #itsabird
A grumpy looking sparrow on a bit of leafless twig. It’s grumbling about eating a seed for some reason. Its void like eye is caused by being witness to terrible crimes. It keeps flying to new places but no matter where it goes the past follows it.
Today my Bird of the Day is the White-crowned Sparrow. This one was hanging out oceanside in California which isn’t such a bad place to be. 🪶 #itsabird

I get pretty excited for almost every bird I see and looking through my photos I generally remember each encounter. Some are a little more memorable like the Great Kiskadee on South Padre Island, TX that kept us company several times at a favorite birding spot. 🪶 #itsabird
