So the thumbnail in particular is a terrible example of the "argument" presented.

TBH I never thought that Arkham was the rendering masterpiece some made it out to be, nor I think Suicide is as crappy as ppl say. But that's entirely irrelevant. Arkham was on UE3 and Suicide on UE4 - not 5. In either case I think rocksteady did a lot of custom work - as it's ALWAYS necessary.

This is 100% total BS. It's comparing the best, most memorable games of a given generation, to games that did not do so well today. As if terrible games did not exist before! They did, there were plenty of them, it's just that we don't remember/play/look at them anymore.

Seems that a ton of win32 demos have rotten. Lots don't run anymore, and I'm not talking ancient... dx11 stuff. Dunno/don't have time to exactly see why, probably some missing or changed DDLs?

I'm this close to declaring that allowing float == float in C was a mistake.

Watching AppleTV Foundation. Pretty good. Also... pretty clear. Please cinematographers, take note. Stop using film and petzval lenses like you just found out about instagram and lomography. This is how things should look like.

Ted Bendixson – Most of your projects are stupid. Please make some actual games. – BSC 2025 YouTube video by Better Software Conference

Takes some guts to go on stage at BSC and say "stop playing with... yourself and actually ship products" -> www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ca53...

This is something I've been trying to tell many people over the years. Unsuccessfully, for the most part.

Stuff like that was on my mind too - of course as I mention in the article, you have to then be careful because it's transparency, so it will show parallax - but w/manually made skirts U can make them tight. I guess stochastic transparency b/c you have a gbuffer that is not "blendable"?

Yes, stuff like that is where my mind was at first - I think the smart intuition is that you can just do everything in screenspace. That said, still hard, because that has to be at full-res, so you have to optimize quite a bit I imagine
