i have wanted to make an Informal Subjective Simpsons Showrunner Style Analysis video a la this thread for years & years but it is difficult to envision an ethical/non-corrosively toxic version of it post-reading Mike Reiss's memoir full of beyond the pale racism for research
and they say "we thought this would be the last season" on the dvd commentary every year but sideshow bob, skinner, flanders, etc all get what feel like dedicated Sendoffs and Homer's Enemy & Co. feel almost uniquely hostile to the next showrunner who has to continue business as usual
s8 is particularly interesting bc they are pretty openly exhausted and out of ideas in the back half but the baseline joke sensibility is still rly cute and appealing to me as a bluesky user so you get episodes like "The Canine Mutiny"?? that are forgotten Banger 6/10s
their active inclusion of marge & lisa as comedic characters on par with homer and quantity of boring corporate speak bits (ex: Allied Biscuit vs Table Time) seem to both stem from a renewed interest in mining the way Real People Really Talk for jokes which i find weirdly adorable
whenever i am doing "comedy writing" for any extended period of time i relapse into being an annoyingly evangelical fan of Specifically Seasons 7 and 8 of the simpsons and im sure this is an entirely unique experience none of you have had so i will post about it
