Victoria and our cat Elvis

Victoria and our cat Elvis

Words fail me. My Victoria who some of you know as @vcblanco.bsky.social or @rooftop_gambler on Twitter was taken from me suddenly on the evening of Christmas Eve. She was against all odds even kinder and funnier and more intelligent than she was beautiful. There are none like her.

Image of 3 kittens. Goldie is ginger and white, Frankie is tabby and white, Murphy is calico. Named after the 3 wise men.

All the kittens sleeping with their mum, Honey, who we’re keeping.

Fostering kittens adds drama to your life. In the last 24 hours we’ve had 3 escapees from the kitten room (they’re going to be clearing the barricade consistently any day) & their mum bringing them a dead bird.
When that was confiscated, she then brought them a slice of Gruyère cheese, Merry Xmas.

Just watching that Norwegian disaster show set in La Palma, very festive.

Can’t resist Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, he’s always good.

In disaster movies, one character always opens a special bottle of wine.

Wonder if people with these bottles drank them when Covid hit?

“We’ll find out what the final cheese is, in 35 minutes”.

Christmas Eve, final advent day, is here.

Mediawatch ranks media's best-of 2024 lists Mediawatch: Christmas coincides with media tackling the gargantuan task of ranking everything humanity produced this year.

I thought it was ok, I liked it when he accidentally told the old guy to go to hell.

Finally finished Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton. I liked the second half a lot, wonder if they’ll make a movie of it.

Yeah but he only has 14 followers, you have way more.
Best to just block and not give them oxygen by spreading their message further.

I only have a letterboxd to record what films I watch now.

My rating system has changed over the years, so is nonsense overall, and I find it hard to review. I’m not good at describing why I liked a film or not.

I feel like people enjoy basketball and get fired up and scornful about football. Baseball is conflicted.

Rugby and cricket from a NZ view are either easy and joyful, teams of titans, so people bliss out nit picking, or it’s just unbearably tense. Cricket is also sometimes filled with despair.

Photo of a shopping list which includes wet food for all, which will be for the cats and kittens, but sounds awful.

Wet food for all, is a horrifying addition to our joint shopping list reminders.

It summarised a document into a Facebook post for me scarily well the other day, it weirded me out.

We won the Christmas quiz at work but they got our team name, which was an AI generated Die Hard themed quiz team name, wrong.

Someone else in our team told them the wrong name, missing a ho and I kept correcting them but was on mute, lol, so now we won but it’s tainted.

One more day of work.

Xmas Eve lunch is ham on baguette, then trifle. Then later turkey, mash, oyster dressing leftover from thanksgiving, cauli cheese.

Xmas morning is cheese & onion strata w. bacon.

Xmas dinner is butterflied lamb on bbq, salads.
Later sticky toffee pudding or giant strawberry tart, not sure yet.

For the last two years I've been reminding people that perceived wisdom of "National is better at running the economy" has absolutely no basis in fact.

Today I feel vindicated. Yet despite the evidence in front of out eyes, I'm sure many among the great unwashed still believe that nonsense.

England. That was my point.

This never resolves because in America you’re focused on what’s in it and for everyone else we’re focused on what’s around it, and burger bun = burger.

When austerity worsens public debt & cuts GDP Treasury expected to downgrade GDP growth & tax forecasts as Government's spending cuts & building freezes hit the economy; Willis expected to delay surplus & lift borrowing forecast by $6 billion

We've reached the 'find out' stage of the Government's economic & fiscal strategies. IE. They've 'fxxxed around' & now we 'find out' if its austerity strategy of cutting size of Govt to cut borrowing actually works to grow the overall economy & reduce Govt debt. 1/2 open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...

Yeah the Reuben is an outlier. Over here most hot sandwiches would fall under toasted sandwiches. Subs are kind of their own thing?

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Nope. It’s not an Australian thing either. Only Americans are calling any burgers sandwiches.

All the rest of the English occupied nations know a sandwich is cold.
