Really enjoying the monotype process using oil paints instead of printing inks. Learning taken from an artist called Emerson Mayes. Need to keep the oils thin as you apply the layers & be loose with the mark making. Birds are roughly A5 and Sheep A4. High risk as only 1 impression but lots of fun.

Really excited for the launch of our exhibition at the Weigh Ahead Gallery in Dunblane. Runs from 14th Feb to 28 March. If you are in the area then pop in and see what Tom, Anna and myself have been up to. We’d love to see you there. #printmakers #originalprints #handpulled #stirling #dunblane

Crow - monotype using oil paint. 14.5x10cm on smooth watercolour paper.

Crow - monotype using oil paint. 14.5x10cm on smooth watercolour paper.

First print of 2026. Monotype of a crow using oil paint. I’m a big fan of @emersonmayes and trying to explore his methods. I’m pleased with the way the print has come out. Just need to develop the method into my own work now. W&N oil paint on smooth watercolour paper. 14.5 x 10cm.

Came across this beauty by the river Forth. 2 of them. One in the bushes and the other standing watching me. Got a grainy pic before they were off. I couldn’t see the feet so made them up. Should I ground the image or just leave it as is?

I don’t colour my prints but this one wasn’t great. To try & save it I ran watercolour washes through it. I also included wild white clover which is found in the field. I’m reasonably pleased with it. What do you think? 7x8.5cm, monoprint & watercolour on 250gsm paper. #drypoint #monoprint #stirling

Thank you. A lot of happy accidents taking place with the wiping process on a small plate tbh. 😄

Small Drypoint monoprints. All slightly different with the core image, a large Oak tree in a farmers field close to home in Stirling, Scotland. 5 prints in total, showing 3 here. Which one do you prefer?

Two little prints from my local field. Imaginatively called the ‘Farmers Field’ 😂 The 1st is a straightforward drypoint print and the 2nd I’ve turned into a monoprint. Personally I prefer the 2nd. 9x3.5cm, Cranfield etching ink, 250gsm acid free paper. #printmakers #printmaking #drypoint

Class Album! I played this non stop back in the day. (Still play it regularly now.) I saw him recently in Glasgow and when he sang rattlesnakes. Wow! So many memories…..

Today we meet print artist Rosanna Reade. We love her characterful domestic linocuts. They give us a sense of nostalgia and a simpler view of our complex lives. The cats are wonderful too!

It hasn’t been a great start to 2025 with the loss of my dad and my mother in law. Creativity has taking a back seat but now getting back into things. A pair of Blue Tits - a symbol of Hope & Optimism. I think I’ll frame them together. Drypoint. 8.5cm square. #birds #bluetits #drypoint #printmakers
