Then why would she make that comment in response to that guy’s public statement and not to the BBC’s? The parent post is about his public statement. NOBODY was “telling Black people to suck it up, insinuating that they aren’t empathetic towards the mentally ill” — even the BBC wasn’t doing that.

Many people are mad at the guy who said it. You can find some of those very people in the replies to the parent post. You can also find prominent figures like Jamie Foxx castigating the guy and not the BBC.

He never said or implied any of those things you ascribed to him in what I just quoted from you, so while you haven’t “said” a single negative word about him, you’ve very clearly insinuated it.

Well first of all you put words in his mouth, including words that would cast him in an extremely negative light.

When you step on someone’s foot, it’s still your fault for not being mindful of where you were stepping. Expecting a disabled person to apologize for their disability is a different matter entirely. He had no agency in this situation, and it’s gross to ascribe to him even a modicum of blame here.

If I were that man I’d be tired of having to apologize for my disability too. If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at the BAFTAs for putting the man with coprolalia so close to the mics and not editing the broadcast.

What should he offer instead? His disability isn’t his fault. He can’t meaningfully apologize for something that was out of his control to begin with. Would you expect a deaf person to apologize for not hearing their injured neighbor’s calls for help?
