So with Spurs no longer a serious club (for now), I think it’s a boon that I will get to enjoy the WC unbothered by club dynamics.
This part of my football fandom has felt really weird because ALL star Czech players during this period played for Spurs’s rivals.

Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal)
Tomas Soucek (West Ham, with Vaclav Coufal)
(Milan Baros for Liverpool too, though not a direct rival)
The team fell into mediocrity immediately after that, and it’s been 20 years since the last time they even participated in a World Cup. Among other things, I’m so happy Patrik Schick gets to play in his first, possibly last WC at the age of 30.
The 12-yr-old me saw Milan Baros, Jan Koller, Pavel Nedved etc destroy every defense, and thought football should be just like that, electrifying and fearless.
Czechia’s qualification to the World Cup saves my day during which my club opted to self-destruct. I have been supporting the Czechs in WCs and Euros ever since the 2004 Euros.
Or LAFC? I honestly may just take a football break until the world cup, except from Spurs Women. Long overdue as I have never watched them play!
Adiós! I will be watching Spurs Women in the mean time.
