"They do/say/make a thing I've incorporated into my self perception & worldview, so I must ignore anything they do that might my perception of myself" ends up exerting enormous influence on the individual scales of justice.

If a deathbed conversion can save a person, then no amount of evil committed is enough to condemn them. So, we end up with communities defending individuals who are doing harm, because they value the good the individual also provides or because exposing them will damage the group identity.

I've wondered if the christian-binary worldview of good and bad people has had an outsized impact on how we view people. In most christian doctrines, once you are saved you are destined for heaven and access unlimited forgiveness. Conversely, if you are not saved, no amount of good will rescue you.

Screenshot of Ullico Inc Facebook post quoting Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez "We have had a dramatic realignment in American society behind the power of the union and the power of union workers ... solidifying the power of solidarity and collective action in advancing workers' rights." BUT then lists her bio in the byline as "waitress, bartender, and member of the U.S. Congress"

Post on Facebook by Ullico, the "Union Labor Life Insurance Company" with a truly egregious bio for AOC: "waitress, bartender, and member of US Congress". What the actual fuck? Hey, with allies like these, no wonder the left keeps getting stabbed in the back.

The vendor should tell Alan he's sorry for the misunderstanding and he's happy to provide pierogis exactly how Alan likes them and give him raw pierogis. Are these young enough?

Gonna hold a gun to my own head so I can say I was coerced and have the marriage annulled once we live together and I realize she was lying about wanting to watch Ninja Turtles reruns with me every night.

At first, I was looking at Mendeley or Zotero, but I think those are really more for citation tracking and not quite what I want. I’m not going to be collecting academic articles, we’d be doing our own statistical analysis and tracking those results.

hey @erinbiba.bsky.social ! I am trying to find a good solution for collaborative research across a reasonably large team (30ish folks) - ideally, I think I am looking for something to map out research sub-projects, record results, and document definitions and preferred methodologies.

Thoughts?

It’s the same logic as declaring the ills of elitist higher education as Jewish - it is of way of invalidating those who don’t agree with you without ever having to address their position. I imagine he sees billionaires who support fascist ideology as the “good exceptions” to his rule

When you think people are either good or bad with no spectrum, you can easily embrace monsters as “good” people or discard valid points and testimony, because it came from a “bad” person.

But agreeing with an antisemite that Israel is doing bad things right now, does not magically redeem them.

When you can’t distinguish critical thought and opinions, any opinion that aligns with your beliefs starts to sound like wisdom.

And the people who echo your beliefs must be good, maybe even better than you thought before.
