Air conditioning is not the answer. Air conditioning compounds the problem. All energy, however it is used will eventually convert into heat. So while you are throwing 2kW at cooling your room you are also pumping 2kW out into the street.

Those same people got apprenticeships, trades, free education, benefits they could live on, social housing, the right to by those subsidised houses, index linked or final salary pensions, etc. All the things they fight to take away from the generations who follow as well as those boat people.
